Your banner supplier may have been mistaken, as Russian sources indicate the Guard Cossack banners looked as follows:

I know nothing of such things but imagine that this would be a parade religious item, like an icon.The banners are more for the field I suspect.Summerfield will tell us. See his book!

Thanks all for your feedback. The banner isn't sold as a Russian Lifeguard Cossacks its a Byzantine banner. I did originally intend to use the religious iconic banner for a Moscow Militia vignette but I just enjoyed painting the lifeguard Cossacks I wanted to see if I could construct the banner and cross. The Lifeguard Cossacks like all the Russian Military during Napoleons invasion were using any relevant propaganda to motivate the troops and population.
