Not to buy more minis until you paint what you've got.

Some take that more literally than others, apparently.

Others have no hope of keeping it. It's like the New Year's Eve/Day exercise pledge for the coming 12 months, that few if ever keep, but for gamers who collect, and yes, even occasionally paint their minis.

Some more thoughts here.

There seems to be a number of interpretations so here's mine.

I try to paint more figures during the year than I buy. It's broken down by months. I lay out a plan at the beginning of the year and hope for the best. I count one figure as one regardless of scale or type. It has helped me paint more miniatures and I've kept the unpainted pile from growing.

Here's the most recent month

Doesn't this break the first rule, "don't talk about the pledge".

I usually end up just keeping track of painting and purchasing, but its neat to see how everyone is doing.

I attempt to paint more than I buy. Haven't succeeded yet. Maybe next year. Its not a competition, everyone has their own way of tracking stuff, but its fun to see what people are doing, and how you may compare to others progress.

Phooey! In my opinion…….oh look shiny, must buy.

Syrinx026 Nov 2019 8:34 p.m. PST

I used to try to keep paint more than I purchased back in the beginning. Then it became a way to track my ratio in a vain effort to slow down my purchases. grin

I do expect to decrerase my purchases starting next year due to being laid off. At my age it might turn into retirement which will impact the hobby budget a bit.

It's HERESY!!!!!!!!!!!……

If we want our hobby to thrive we must by minis. Think of it as a subscription fee to participate in the best hobby ever.

Alternatively, be a scrooge, let our manufacturers go out of business, paint your old dusty dry rotted lead, and then cry your self to sleep as the only games left will be 40K and age of crapmar.

I think you'll find most people in the Pledge are still buying miniatures. This year I've bought 184 figures not counting 42 that were already painted. There's 35 more on the way. So far I've painted 319.

I'm guessing the end of year count for many will be close to one to one.

It seems like an AA group for miniatures enthusiasts.

I'm not against that! My wife wouldn't be either…

How does this work? Is it when you buy the miniature or when you get them?

Are mounted figures, moulded as separate rider and mount, 1 or 2?

Would 15mm count as 1/2 or 1/4 of 28mm? ;)

Does painted include based?

(I can cheat and say I didn't buy any in December (yet – but I'm trying to resist . . . Hmm, this really IS like AA!!) but am expecting some from a couple places I ordered from on Black Friday.)

I count when I get them.

I count as 1. I also count all scales as the same.

I count up to based and flagged. They may still need to have a seal coat put on.
