I just received my order of 4 AWI flags from Rick, the Flag Dude and as usual, they are beautiful. The service was great, we exchanged several emails over the course of the process and after the final decision was made, the flags were promptly shipped. I highly recommend for great flags.

I totally agree with you. Rick is a great guy to do business with and his flags are fabulous.

Happy someone managed to get in touch with him and buy some flags. NOT my experience at all.

historygamer10 Sep 2016 11:25 a.m. PST

My experience was great as well. Rick rocks and so do his flags.

Rick, has great flags and has always done right by me. Great service he even once mounted his flags on poles I already had made at a convention for me. Just a great person to deal with in all my experience. Also I have used a wide variety of periods of his flags which all are great.

Exactly what Winston01 said !!

My experience mirrors wrgmr1.

I just got my third order of Napoleonic flags from Rick, and they are excellent as always.

It's funny, whenever I show non-gamers my model cabinets, nevermind the paint job, it's Rick's flags that get the comments!

Virginia Tory28 Sep 2016 7:36 a.m. PST

His flags are outstanding I've got everything from AWI to Napoleonic to Vietminh from him!

TheKing3001 Oct 2016 9:44 a.m. PST

I've dealt with Rick now for many years. I always stroll by his booth to say hello. He's one of those people who always has a smile and you're richer for knowing him.

I remember the first time I used his flags – my army won best painted at a Historicon tournament! I have no doubt that his flags had allot to do with it.

Delays, etc. are a part of life. As long as The Flag Dude continues to sell flags, I'll be a customer.

Old Contemptibles02 Oct 2016 2:10 a.m. PST

I sent him an email back in March asking if he could do a custom flag for me. Never got a response. Resent it, still no response.

Since everyone is singing his praises, I thought I would give him another try. So I emailed him about ordering one flag. This time I got a automatic reply. I guess that is progress. That was a week ago and still no reply.

It isn't like I am a new customer. I have ordered from him before and got good service. Do you now have to go to a convention to get the flags? I live half way across the country from the conventions he attends. On the other hand I get great service from GMB and I don't have to cross the ocean to get my flags.

Rick is a great guy, a great gamer, and sells great product, that he makes himself. So sorry to hear folks have had poor experiences, but things do fall through the cracks.

Old Contemptibles10 Oct 2016 11:55 a.m. PST

Still have not received a reply to any of my emails, other than automatic responses.

Flagdude does go quiet now and again for sure, but about a month ago I emailed him through his website and within 2 hours got a response and within 10 days, I had received a large order of 15mm Napoleonic flags, all 120 of them perfect.

I attempted to order 25 flags from him in January of this year. Called, emailed and sent a letter. Nothing. Not one response to any of it. You don't buy from him in person at one of the conventions he disappears. It's sad really, he makes good stuff.

Old Contemptibles19 Oct 2016 7:40 a.m. PST

That is exactly my problem with him. Does not respond to his customers. You either buy them at the convention or your out of luck.

Agreed.

Having been an early Flag Dude customer, I had experienced superb service. When you have his attention, he is excellent. Later, my experiences became of the hit or miss variety that others report.

Still, upon embarking on a new period a few years back, I wanted to go with The Dude's flags. I wasn't able to raise him on email, so I reconciled myself to waiting for the next HMGS convention and going to his booth with my shopping list. That didn't work, either.

He didn't have any of the flags that I was looking for with him (these were 28mm Prussian Napoleonic). I was a bit frustrated that I wasn't able to walk out with a single item, but understood that maybe he didn't have the chance to restock every line in every scale for the convention, particularly for a non mainstream army like mine. Stockage issues are not that unusual for hobbyist/vendors (I get it), so I had also anticipated that I would be placing an order with him in person for whatever was unavailable (thus avoiding the email black hole). Unfortunately, this didn't work, either. He told me that I should email him my list after the convention…that was it for me. I ordered the flags from GMB.

I like the Dude and wish him well, I should add, and am glad to hear that some are happy with their results. Maybe his circumstances enable him to be more consistent than in the past. My advice is to at least give him a shot and see what happens.

" My advice is to at least give him a shot and see what happens."

Easy to say when it's not your money. I have switched to GMB too.

I know this is an old post now but I would like to add my experience.

I ordered around 60 28mm Nap flags, British, French, KGL, Portuguese, Brunswick and Baden. Got hold of Rick via email which he replied and within a week they were on there way.

Well two weeks went by and no flags, I emailed Rick. Agreed to give it another week. Third week no flags. Rick said he would redo them and I gave him a shipping address in the US instead of sending them to Canada again.

Within 10 days Rick had redone them all and I picked them up. Three weeks later the original box of flags turned up which I returned to Rick at Cold Wars.

I think the problem with delivery was going from truck to donkey once they crossed the border.

I have received a lot of flags from Rick over the past couple of years and although it generally takes only a few days to a week for him to respond to an email. I am happy to wait for the response because I know I will get what I asked for and quickly and honestly you can't beat the cost for what you get.

Oh and I get them sent to the shipping office now!
Cheers.

Virginia Tory04 Apr 2017 10:15 a.m. PST

I had some issues contacting him, but all worked out well and I picked up several 15mm AWI flags at Cold Wars.

I don't need pics of his flags. I know they are great. But that doesn't solve any problems. I can't travel half way across the country to an East coast con just to pick up a flag order.

I know he has had some problems but if he is able to cart his business to a convention then he should be able to put a few flags into an envelope and mail them or at the very least return emails and phone calls. At least put on your website that you now longer accept mail orders.
