Any solo gamers out there doing 6mm world war 2 solo?

What theater(s) are you playing?

What rules are you using?

I need a game where I touch something!!! I've played a few tabletop games (not ww2) and I've lost interest.

Thinking about giving ww2 a shot.

No one close by that I know of plays ww2 games of any kinds. Most play Heroclix and Magic (or are into aerial games).

Looking for something solo, ww2 with a nice set of rules.

Thinking 1944-45 Easter/Western Front
6mm GHQ
Schwere Kompanie for rules. I have them, read them once, but never pulled the trigger on this endeavor.

My biggest hurdle here is playing surface. Painting mini's will be fun, but making terrain doesn't interest me in the slightest. I'm seriously considering cheap hex maps.

Wondering what you all did for maps/terrain?

Also, what about infantry? GHQ infantry seem nice, but are there better detailed infantry than GHQ?

Thanks

If you want inexpensive and simple go with a terrain mat. you can do it yourself or pay, lots of discussion on both on the following webpage.

I have used a Wings of War/Glory matt for this – not exactly cheap but nicely detailed

For infantry Adler makes some very nice figs

Baccus has nice figs as well but only has Brits, Yanks and Germans so far

You can do a lot with very simple terrain. Here is a modern game in 6mm: TMP link

Last summer I did a solo project for the Western Desert using 2 Hour Wargames "Hell Hath No Fury" rules, but Ed has a number of rule sets that support solo gaming.

I just used a basic felt mat with some cut-up pieces of felt to make ridges. I was fighting in North Africa, so there wasn't a need for much other terrain. You could do use green felt for groups of trees or get some model railroad lichen. As long as you avoid towns, you wouldn't need too much else for terrain.

I am not trying to push my stuff at all – but you mention hexes.

I have put together some free rules with a few interesting scenarios, designed for small tables (large pinboard size will do) with the Kallistra 4" hexes.

If you don't like making terrain, then Kallistra is a good option, but not your cheapest option ….. However the old maxim of 'buy once' is something to think about.

Anyway here is a link to a blog post that talks about the latest version of the rules, plus some links at the bottom of the post which you may feel useful in coming to a decision.

I do. I wrote these rules with solo play in mind. Here is a link Brigadier General to my WW2 rules with a section for 6mm and smaller.
