All, Okay, this is part two of the fight for Rhein-Main Airbase. We left off with a very small force from Team Whiskey (two infantry platoons from Kilo Company, two TOW sections, and a couple SF teams) trying to keep the Soviet armored horde from overrunning the airbase, and things weren't going so well, particularly given the fact the Soviets just shot down our air support…
A TOW fires into the flank of the lead enemy mecanixed elements.
Fighting got up close and personal.
US tank reinforcements came on, but didn't do so well, and then the Soviets pounded the US center with supporting fires. First came the 122mm shells, then came the 57mm rockets. To see the whole write-up, please check the blog at: linkThe elements of Team Whiskey were able to put tremendously high casualties on their foes, but not enough to hold the position. The Soviets ran through them, easily taking Rhein-Main airbase, throwing area NATO forces into a headlong retreat for the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke, the last remaining bridge across the Rhine. Team Whiskey is now down to its commanding officer, LtCol Lacy, a single tank platoon under Lt Travers, India Company under Captain Phillips, which is down to two platoons (under Capt Sighe and Lt Ensmith), and a few attachments from Weapons Company. They are streaming towards the bridge, hoping to beat the Soviets there. V/R, Jack |

Love these battle reports. I'm going to snoop around your blog, but how do you come up with the campaign framework and scenarios? |

Dinofbattle2 – Thanks man, I appreciate it! If you check the blog you'll see I've run a few campaigns. All the others ("All Americans," "In Country," Kampfgruppe Klink," and "Cuba Libre") were deals I just make up myself, roughly following history with All Americans and KG Klink. With Team Whiskey, Kyote's got it: this is a scenario book that will be published by Ben Lacy of Britton Publishers in the next week or two. Thanks for commenting. V/R, Jack |

Great battle reports as usual. I think it is fair to say that Team Whiskey has for all intents and purpose ceased to exist at this point and would be best rolled into another understrength formation. God, please tell me there is a Belgian mech infantry battalion somewhere to allow for whiskey to be taken off line and rested! Where are the ReForGer units? Is it time to look into tactical weapons release to stop the horde? Can not wait for your next battle report. |

General, Thanks man, I appreciate it. "I think it is fair to say that Team Whiskey has for all intents and purpose ceased to exist at this point and would be best rolled into another understrength formation." Yes, but but first they have to escape. V Corps in the main has gotten over the bridge at Wiesbaden, but the other NATO forces east of the Rhine are pretty much in a route to get to the bridge, Team Whiskey included. Same goes for other NATO/REFORGER units stepping up to give these guys a rest; gotta get over the bridge first. The tactical nukes, while certainly not very palatable, are more and more shaping up to be a tactical necessity. I've got all the pics loaded and formatted for batrep number 10, and I've written up the first two turns, but I still have a page and a half of notes for the final three turns to get written up. I'm hurrying! V/R, Jack |
