I recently bought a DVD copy of the recently released BATTLE OF WARSAW. It is the most expensive film ever made in Poland, and tells the story of the Russo-Polish War.

I got this film at Historicon 2012. It's a very interesting film, great battle scenes. For a year, now I've been asking if anybody makes female figures that could serve as those represented in the Polish army in the film. Long skirts, blouses, peaked caps? Also Boy Scout units?

Is it for 1920? Is it me or does that kit look very inaccurate? Top of the DVD cover looks like the gent has an M1 Carbine

The cover IS odd. The guy on top is carrying a M1 carbine, and looks to be wearing a US late WWII field jacket. The infantry on the bottom look to be early WWII Poles, as the helmets pictured didn't appear until the 1930s. Its like they couldn't figure out how to get stills from the actual film. |

The actual stills look copacetic but the cover art is way off.An interesting looking film. |

Have not seen the film but have seen clips. I am happy this conflict is receiving attention and once available in the US I will probably purchase it. The uniforms do look very strange from what I have read about Polish forces during the war. The polish in the movie look far to uniformed more like mid 20's Polish then the mix of WWI German, Austrian, French and whatever else worn by the 1919-1920 Polish army. |

I checked amazon today and they offer it here in the US. Make sure your DVD player can play region 2 format before buying though. |

Bongnar, if you check the interwar board on Lead Adventore there is a fellow working on a range of 1920 Poles. I think I remember him either having women planned or already done. |

It's only in region 2 so I'm out |

A lot of war films released on dvd in the UK nowadays have covers made up of an assortment of dramatic stock photos that have nowt to do with the film. |
Pan Marek | 16 Mar 2013 8:24 a.m. PST |
Why? Seems a good way to turn off a good portion of their intended audience. |

I think they reckon that they're going to make more money from having a cover that stands out to the casual shopper than focussing on people with a specific interest. At the mo it's on sale in most large tesco stores so they're not just being marketed as niche foreign films. They just want as much punch in that first glance at the shelves as possible. |

Excellent film. I got a copy last week and have watched it three times already. Natasza Urbanska is delicious, the main characters are sympathetic, the representations of Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin I find spookily convincing, there are moments of high humour, and the military hardware is -- irrespective of the nonsenses that might appear on the wrapping -- as accurate as I've ever seen, indeed I couldn't fault it. Americans should appreciate the nod given to the Eskadra Kosciusko, the volunteer flying unit whose traditions were inherited by 303 (Polish) Fighter Squadron RAF (top scorers against the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain). Watch the film and you can see where the big budget went -- impressive "cast-of-thousands" scenes, rather than expensive CGI. Maybe the film-makers, in deference to the modern idiom, included just a spot of gore-splatter across the lens and a couple of improbably billowing orange explosions, but mostly it relies on the old-fashioned virtues of sympathetic characterisation and interesting story-telling. Buy it, watch it, and drink to the health of the Polish Lancers. All the best, John. |

What an outstandingly good film. Poor reviews at IBDM though, for rewasons that escape me. Just finished watching it, it really was good, and it just goes to show that they CAN get the uniforms and kit right when they try! |

I got this on Amazon a while back -it's a good film and well worth a watch. As has been said the historical characters are spot on. |

I loved the characterisation of Tukhachevsky, obvious even though he wasn't names. Haller looked right as well as the main characters. |
