I emjoy air combat games for both WW1 and WW2 periods. So I am thinkjing of buying some models and fixing up some games. What rules would you recommend? Bag the Hun and Check Your Six seem popular. What do you recommend and why is it they give a good game, in your opinion. As this will not be the first time this has been asked what other threads on this can you point me too? |

Yankee Air Pirates (I think) took the Mustang's game rules and expanded them to cover WWI to Modern (3 or 4 different rules sets, similar rules in each). They are free from their site. One set of rules could cover both conflicts. Blue Sky Black Cross (Black Cross blue sky?) is a very fun and realistic set of rules – I game with the designer though so I am slightly biased (but it really is a great game, only covers BOB currently though). Blue Max (I have the old GDW version) is also a fast playing fun game set for WWI. |

I like both CY6! and the Blue Sky series for different reasons. I like Blue Sky because of its simplicity, but I think the combat in CY6! is handled a little more realistically. I don't really care for the canned movement in CY6! as I think it over-controls the players ability to maneuver. In CY6! the maneuver parameters can't carry over from turn to turn, whereas most of the other games I've played, it can. |

The biggest difference between Check Six and Bag the Hun is the number of aircraft you control. CY6 is really designed for the player to control a single to few (up to 3) aircraft while BTH is really designed to handle from 2 to 12 per side. CY6 is really plane vrs plane while BTH, though it uses individual planes, is designed for element vrs element or flight vrs flight. You are correct; they are both popular; I think it depends on what scale of battle you are after. Joe |

Gweirda, No worries. I felt that was obvious; if it wasn't I failed to communicate effectively. My bad. But the scale is more important in my mind. I would compare CY6 and BTH as a man to man game vrs a squad to squad game that uses individual soldiers. Both are tactical, yet they are focusing on a different scale of event. Thanks Joe |
