So, guys, what do you think of this attempt? link Keep clicking on the photos to the right of that one. And, to zoom, just click on the "All Sizes" button above the photos. Please be honest. I welcome your critique. Thanks. Dan link TMP link |

When are they going into production? Seriously, I'd buy a pack. The only thing that I'd want to see is the grab-tongue-things as a separate sprue that could be attached in the mouth, and bent for variety. |
Cacique Caribe | 31 Mar 2010 6:39 p.m. PST |
LOL. Thanks. I dunno if anyone wants to buy it yet. And I wouldn't know what to ask for it either. Anyway, I feel like my eyesight and right arm have conspired of late, to keep me from completing this old project (done about 6 months ago). "The only thing that I'd want to see is the grab-tongue-things as a separate sprue that could be attached in the mouth, and bent for variety." Whoever gets it may need to add some of those final touches. Dan |

Looks good. You should have it cast. |

That's a winner, dude. I'd buy one, and I don't even play 15mm games. I'd use in a 25mm game as a small graboid. While I tend to agree with the desire for grasping tentacles, my experience with such things on other models is that they tend to only make the false 3D of the mouth (which, for obvious reasons, doesn't lead to a gullet) more obvious. That is they tend to have the opposite effect, making the mini look more hokey. I'd cast it the way it is. |
War Monkey | 31 Mar 2010 8:06 p.m. PST |
Dan, That looks really Great, you did a really wonderful job, and I have to agree with everbody else you should have it cast. I myself would skip the tounges and just go as is! I would buy a few. Doug |
Space Monkey | 31 Mar 2010 9:07 p.m. PST |
Yep, looks good. I could see using a few in various games. It might be nice if there was a variant where the mouth was closed or more of the critter was out of the ground. |
Gailbraithe Games | 31 Mar 2010 10:29 p.m. PST |
You wouldn't even need a variant, just a "base" to mount the head on that was more of the creature, then you'd have the option of fielding graboids in two stages of grabbing. |

Funny that you guys mention bodies. When first started this 15mm project over 6 months ago, I began with two front halves of bodies. This was my sketch: link I guess that, if someone bought the head, they could send me a cast so I can adapt it to one of those incomplete body halves. Dan |

I think you need two more larger sizes, a 25mm scale one, and then one a size larger than that. |

Glenn, Riverbluff Wargames bought the 28mm version a while back: link Not sure when/if that one will go into production: TMP link Dan |

I'd buy a pack of them if they came with a ridiculously over armed and militant Michael Gross. Mongo |

Cacique Caribe | 01 Apr 2010 12:52 p.m. PST |
Mike, LOL!!! I have a couple of people ahead of you now. If, for some reason, neither one of them works out, you're next in line. I've just added a comparison photo of the finished head next to the incomplete body: link link If/when the head is cast, I plan to use a couple of the casts to adapt to the body. The body will then get the final details. Of those two heads adapted to the body, one of the heads will have the mouth open and the other one closed. link Size-wise, I think it's pretty close to what I had sketched 6 months ago: link When finished, the body section will probably have simulated cracked soil around it, like I did with the 28mm version pictured here: link Thanks. Dan PS. By the way, the 28mm version was sold to Riverbluff Wargames and was very, very big. It was was sold semi-finished back in 2007 or 2008. Not sure if he will ever cast it. I hope he does. I would love couple of those casts. |

We have just reached an agreement with Dan about the 15mm non-graboid head. The head will be cast in a metal alloy. How should the final product be packed and sold ? Thanks for your comments in advance, Piotr @ Pole Bitwy 15mm.eu |
Gailbraithe Games | 01 Apr 2010 4:03 p.m. PST |
Depending on how much it costs (i.e. lead weight) per unit, I think 3 for $4-8 dollars would be reasonable. Given prices for other stuff in 15mm (like Rebel minis stuff), I definitely think $6.49 USD for 3 is about the target price. Maybe 3 euro, I don't know the conversion rate off the top of my head. Either that or package them 3 in a pack with a dozen modern townsfolk for $20. USD If you're going to do that, get some rules published (pdf) to go with them, sell it as a box game. Also, don't call it graboid unless you have good lawyers and money to burn. Call it an "undergrab worm" or "cthonic slug," whatever. Just not a grabboid. Heck, call it a Nag Worm (not a grabboid worm!). |

I am very late to this party! Seems Dan has already lost his head to the Poles, but they seems to be promising to return them cast in metal for a reasonable sum, so that does not sound to bad. My opinions. I like the head better than the rough of the body, but since the body has not been completed, that is understandable. I first thought this was a plant monster from the somewhat leaf shaped top (and the pictures from behind), and only after going through all the pictures did I realize it was a critter coming out of the ground to grab someone (have I mentioned a lack of sleep and too much work?). One I downloaded the original sized photos and examined them in detail, it was a lot better. I really like the head and think it would be a great piece, but I would liek more than one variant if possible so that when my Marines are attacked by a pack of them, they are not all the same. The body seems a little too bulky to me. I know people love the whole giant Dune worms thing, but it would seem a slightly slimmer body would make more sense more burrowing. Maybe it could use the ridges on its body to help it tunnel sort of like and organic screw that expands, twists, contract sand does that again and again to propel itself underground? I keep wanting to see some form of locomotion that would better equate with speed than a giant worm since I have never seen one of those more too fast on the surface or in soil. Overall, I think its fine work by Dan and I really liek the big worm. Now, what I want to see is what I thought this was at first, a man eating plant. I think you need to work on some "killer" floral critters so I can buy them for Mutants and Death Ray Guns. There is a major shortage of 15mm plant people. Jeff |
Cacique Caribe | 01 Apr 2010 11:08 p.m. PST |
Jeff, Thanks for the great feedback. "Man eating plant?" You want figures of Vegans? LOL. Seriously, though, shoot me some drawings of what you arethinking of. I know that you have also said "I still think you need to consider some plant people or killer floral arrangements. :)". Dan |
Pole Bitwy PL | 01 Apr 2010 11:48 p.m. PST |

Thanks, John. I don't know about skills. I'm still new at it. Anyway, that was 6 months ago, long before I was forced to go into surgery. Hope my right hand lets me get back to playing with putty. I always found it therapeutic. Dan |
