Looking to do up some Japanese for the Burma campaign, probably 15mm, maybe 20mm. Any suggestions on how to do the above? Cheers, Tom |

Hey there! I just picked up some Palm trees new from PMD, I dont think they even have them listed yet. I will see if I can take some pictures and uplaod them for you. They are resin trunks with silk leaves that you can bend in different shapes. We are gearing up for a Pacific game our selves and these had about 20 different sizes so would work great for any scale IMHO. Warlord |

There are so many ways to do this
you can get some pretty inexpensive off of ebay, or plastic ones from online cake decorating shops, or make your own palm leaves using a thin wire as the spine and folded over masking tape as the fronds (have to be trimmed and shaped, of course) or even cutting up silk plants
. For bamboo, the easiest thing is to get some green cloth wrapped floral wire, paint the occasional ring around it in beige or tan (black is more real, but doesn't look as good) and top a bunch of verticals with a clump of sponge flock. |

I just made some bamboo for 20mm Vietnam. Bamboo comes in all kinds of varieties. I picked the easy one to model. It is basically a stalk with a clump of foilage at the top. I started with straight green floral wire I got at Michael's. You could really use piano wire, or probably small diameter plastic rods. An advantage of the floral wire is that it is already green. If you miss some on the painting, no big deal. I cut the wires to length and hot glued them to my base. Then I painted them green with lighter green stripes for highlighting at the "joint". Then the black line in the middle of the light green. I hot glued a clump of rubberized hair on the top and flocked it. I made mine larger than I should have and may cut it down. I think I will trim them to about 1 1/4" diameter. The thickness I would make about 3/4" For palm leaves, watch the plastic floral stuff at Michael's. I bought some for another use, then realized they would make palm fronds. However, in my opinion, assembling them would be a lot of trouble. Maybe a hot glue gun would work. Then you need the trunks with the sort of rings around them. Too much for me! You can buy palm trees cheaply from cake suppliers or sellers on ebay in Hong Kong. Tom |

COL Campbell, I just happened to return to this topic when I was looking for something else and saw your request for photos of my bamboo. Try here: link If that does not work, Google Fields of Fire Reloaded. Go to Art of War. Then scroll down to Rubberized Horsehair. The photo is on the second page. Tom |
