Howdy, does anyone have any advice on making 25mm bamboo groves? Other than ( link ). Thanks! Adrian |

Well that's me out. I was going to send you there, but I'm interested in the responses. |

Adrian: Those by Dewbakuk are some really well done ones. What about using the whole plastic plant link (instead of just the leaves)? Maybe trimming & repainting might work. v/r, Dean |

Very nice bamboo – but it is a bit TOO khaki for my tastes as usually Bamboo remains a nice shade of green most of the year. At least that is what I remember from my visits to Japan. |

Hey Dean, Dewbakuk
I liked the look of those but the spacers could be difficult to find? Hence looking for some alternate method.. Shelldrake, I sent you an e-mail, thanks! :) Adrian |

In Japan there is Tomytec, a model railroad company that makes 8 cm tall sections of bamboo. They have it as 1/150 scale but I bet it can be used for any scale as bamboo leaves are very fine. I have only seen pictures but they look very good. Ebay has some; auction |

A while ago I was in Wallymart, visiting the captive Walmartians, and I spotted bamboo. You could, for about $4, buy a bundle of bamboo sticks, about 2' long, either green bamboo or natural bamboo wood color. I got one of each. I glue plastic plant pieces to the sticks, and now I have a lot of bamboo jungle. |

GW published a technique for bamboo forests for their Lustria campaign a couple years ago (Lustria is fantasy South America). I can't find the article online. If I find it later I'll come back and post the link. Anyway, as I recall they used bamboo skewers, painted dark green, with black lines painted across every so often to represent the sections in the bamboo, and drybrushed in those areas to bring out the grooves in the skewers and accentuate the transition from section to section. Foliage was green foam clump foliage at a couple spots up the trunk, then on top. A bunch of them in a cluster looked pretty good in the photos, and it seemed like a good technique for making a lot at once. |

Well after looking over everyone's advice and a trip to the craft and pet store
I think i've found my solution
18 gauge floral/plant wire (pre wrapped in green) and "Fancy Plants" Bamboo foliage for fish tanks. The foliage slides right on the 18 gauge, I glue two of them in the same place at slight intervals
the bumps from the base of the foliage actually look like bamboo growth and no painting is needed
unless you want it less shiny
I'm still working on a basing method but I have cut ceiling tile i've flocked for other games that I think will work
I can send pics if you give me your e-mail. OR you can join the Puyallupwargamers yahoogroup and look under the "Samurai" photo album. Adrian |
