As part of my Alien Grey game setting I (and others) have been wanting crop cirles.

I have been experimenting making one.

It is only a small prototype, but I think it will do the job.

See the photos here: link

I would like to hear what others think, and if there are any suggestions to improving it.

shelldrake05 Sep 2009 5:38 p.m. PST

I had thought of using a door mat – but trying to find one that would suit what I wanted seemed to be harder than finding the holy grail frown

How about teddy bear fur in a nice wheaty colour with a crop circle shaved into the fabric?

How about teddy bear fur in a nice wheaty colour with a crop circle shaved into the fabric?

Or, if you don't want to permanetly mark your teddy bear fur, what about combing it up, pressing the crop circle and then using hair spray to keep it down and up as required? It can be washed or worked ou later, I think. This is an untested suggestion as I am not a sadist who skins teddy bears alive! grin No seriously, I don't have any teddy bear fur, but I think it would work.

Shelldrake,

By George, you've done it!!!

I've been really curious about your results since you first asked for tips back in April:

Love it.

PS. Didn't you have an older thread that expounded further on your early plans? If so, I can't think of the title, so I can dig it up.

shelldrake05 Sep 2009 10:54 p.m. PST

CC – I kind of figured you would like to know the results, so I thought of you when I posted this thread.

Your prototype looks good.

CC – sorry – I missed the 'PS': The idea for the game was this one?: TMP link

Apart from the link you posted, and the one above, I don't think I made mention of it anywhere else.

Give that man a cigar!!!

That's exactly the one I was looking for. Thanks.

There might be some good gaming ideas among these:

Sweeeet – it will certainly add to scenario ideas thumbs up

This might work as a UFO raid site of sorts.

You could buy some of that long haired matt-like material, shave the crop circle in it with a clippers and then lay the clippings down to look apropriate.

shelldrake10 Dec 2009 10:53 p.m. PST

I had thought of that… but I couldn't find a suitable mat to do this :-(

Shelldrake,

This is too funny:

Seriously, though, I think your best bet is to try something like this and cut out a circle in the center:

lol – I like the crop circle kits

Those plastic grass mats are great – only I pulled mine apart to make jungle scenery.

I looked at the astro turf a while ago too – it was too short for what I wanted… but makes great crop fields for 15mm games.

Cacique Caribe19 Dec 2009 11:09 p.m. PST

ShellDrake,

Have you done anything else with your Greys/UFO game idea?

If so, I would love to hear about it and, perhaps, steal some ideas.

Thanks.

Having not even painted my miniatures for the game, and needing to get more figures as well, the project is a bit on the back burner at the moment.

I am making buildings for 28mm WW2 at the moment, but I would be happy to exchange thoughts and ideas for you to borrow/steal if you are interested.

Cacique Caribe19 Dec 2009 11:44 p.m. PST

Absolutely. Let me know when your schedule permits the exchange.

I would love to hear what, other than crop circles, you have planned for the table. Example, is it all in the middle of a farm, or are you planning on having a small town nearby?

Also, will it be just Greys vs civilians, or do you plan to throw in law enforcement, government agents and even military? And if just Greys vs civilians, what will be the objectives for the Greys (abductions of people, cattle mutilations, recapture of their little chupacabra pets, or something else)?

Lots of other questions but, I guess, one thing at a time, right? :)

Thanks.

Dan,
i am free to exchange ideas (no schedule needed) any time.

If you want to send me an email you can ask as many questions as you like:

aussiewargamer at gmail dot com

So far i can answer "all of the above" to your questions in your previous post :-P

ps – now I look at it, the WW2 house i am building will work as a house for this game too, so I will be able to include it as part of a small village.

Cacique Caribe20 Dec 2009 2:56 p.m. PST

Ian,

Email sent.

Thanks so much.
