Emu2020 and others have fueled my interest in Post Apocalyptic coastal settlements and pirates, among urban "islands" inhabited by survivors:

Now the matter at hand . . .

Aside from using small modern-day boats in HO and 1/72 scale, I would like to include a couple that could look the part of a slightly higher, and faster, tech water craft/boats (as if the catastrophe had taken place 25-50 years from now, and the game setting was another 25-50 years after that).

So . . . I need your help.

These are the ones I'm considering:

* V15-13A – Hover flatbed logistics carrier (Wombat chassis)
* V15-19A – Light Hovertruck (with 2 driver figures)
link
<I don't know if those hover "pillows" are removable>

* V15-29A – Light Utility G-Sled with choice of 2 drivers (cap or helmet)
* V15-30A – Light Utility G-Sled with weapon mount (tribarrel cannon) and crew
link

* V15-45A – High-tech Grav Armoured Carrier Sled (open flatbed)
link

So, what do you guys think?

Which one(s) would work best as a Post Apocalyptic pirate boat, for shallow channels and rivers among urban "islands"?

Thanks!

Why not just keep them as hover craft? That's the way I intend to go for my pirates. They live on a chain of islands that were once the hills along the shore…now flooded. I was inspired by a film clip of USMC landing from an LCAC and attacking inland. Just a thought.

I like the V15-45A – High-tech Grav Armoured Carrier Sled (open flatbed).

I'm surprised there isn't a hover version of this vehicle, so you might suggest it to Jon.

He typically listens to feedback, and might make one, or something similar for you.

Alternatively, you can probably make one yourself, with a little wood, or epoxy putty.

I am really more after a shallow boat look, than use as hover craft.

I think that navegating sunken obstacles presents interesting and fun gaming possibilities. Hover craft would just zoom over most everything, right?

Plus hover craft would (I think) have too many problems landing in areas where there are no beaches, mainly because the islands are sunken buildings protruding above the water.

Does that make sense? I'm not quite sure if I worded this right or if my assumptions are mistaken.

Thanks.

Cool…now I get the wider picture. How about 1/72 WW2 landing craft with a little tweek here and there to make it appear more 1/100 scale? Could even add a sheet plastic deck to the cargo area (enclosing it) and add superstructure to look like a house boat. Pontoon boats like in Waterworld? Large rafts pulled by smaller boats with outboard motors? All kinds of tiny boats at toy stores…many on trailers from Hot Wheels or Matchbox. Just saw off the bottoms for a waterline look. Speedboat pulling a parasail with a pirate aloft for scouting/lookout.

Oops…forgot some stuff.

The flatbed grav truck(s) are likely your best bet for higher tech looking watercraft. Also look at modern stealth ships from the US and elsewhere for ideas. Some of the new stuff have slightly submerged pontoons housing the water jet or other propulsion outlets while the ship is raised on narrow hydrofoil-like legs. The shapes are quite angular and wouldn't be too hard to make out of sheet plastic and some ship bits.

Ooooh cool idea.

I'd love to see "islands" that are the tops of submerged office buildings with shanty towns built on top of them.

And of course, Runestone has just come out with…

Imagine having to negotiate travel between these marsh islands, while fighting off the locals:
