I like the exotic look of the Martian weapon in The Martian Chronicles miniseries. As far as I can recall, they were shown only when Spender went "native" on the others, and earlier on when the female Martian began dreaming of the astronaut and the Martian husband got jealous: link link The construction looked rather crude when you had the barrel pointed at you, but it was exotic . . . very alien and simple at the same time. QUESTION: Are there any schematic drawings/depictions of it anywhere, or clear photos of the props? Thanks. CC |

Or was it just a cone of paper mache they decided to make at the last minute? CC |

I watched the Martian Chronicles along time ago when I was young. I didn't get it. But I did like it. Is it available on DVD somewhere. I want to give myself another chance to understand it. Oh, and to keep it on topic, I like the Martian weapons but they do look crude. |

I loved the book, but unfortunately the entire mini-series was a bit crude. Lots of big name actors from that era though. There was one scene in particular that stuck in my mind. It was the chase scene where the last of the Martians were trying to catch one of the Earth men (Darren McGavin I think). The chase consisted of what looked like a toy Martian skiff with Barbie dolls in being pulled across the set via a string. It was REALLY bad. Still, I loved it. |

Bad? That scene was really tense when I was about 10! |

Hahahahaha! I remember that scene, too. Cheesy goodness! I'm still hoping "The Martian Chronicles" (or at least some of the stories in it) will one day get the big-screen treatment it deserves. |

Those sandships were really cheesy!!! Still, the concept of wind-sailing over sand on top of blades sounds so cool. That's why I'm holding on to this beauty. I think it works best for 15mm. link The crew will be Rebel Minis Greys, which I plan to arm with something exotic. CC TMP link TMP link |

If you're at all into Space: 1889 and related gaming, you've gotta love those Star Wars Skiffs. |

Seeing the TV movie was what inspired me to read Bradbury for the first time. Fell in love with the guy's prose and ideas. That being said, he's hard to translate to film adequately. Especially some of his Martian stories

You guys are gonna love this. I totally forgot that the Martian guns fired bees! link So, does that mean that they were Martian Bee-Bee Guns??? CC |

Doc Bedlam, I was already a Bradbury fan when the miniseries came out. Even bad Bradbury is better than just aout everything else out there, to me. |
