Hi all

Hope everyone had a good new years and are fit and healthy.

Last years last update
TMP link

well 2009 saw my production pick up. I am feeling better (though still undiagnosed – next week hopefully!!!) and am managing my symptoms to a lesser extent that allows me to paint more often.

January totals
Painted
6mm – 344 (lots of French inf and some more guns)

Bought
28mm – 1 (Thanks to Mr Wigglesworth from TMP) This item has gone into storage so does not count towrads my ready locker status but does count towards my bought figures for the year.

Ready locker start of year – 1618
Current status – 1274

So far a profit of 343 figs……Looking good……
Tomorrow sees the 1st show of the year and I've all ready pre ordered some stuff from Baccus….

Febs plan is to

1) Continue painting the French 6mm stuff
2) Finish the 10mm figures for the club game in March
3) Resist more bargains from Ebay/TMP

Hope all are well

MH
:-)

Steve131 Jan 2009 3:13 p.m. PST

Well MH I think I may join you in this for 2009.

January
Start = LOTS!!!
Painted = 72 x 6mm SYW
1 x 25mm 40k
Bought = 0 Nil Nothing

For month = +73

Unfortunately, likie you, I will be at York tomorrow and have a pre order in with Baccus. But hey its only a few packs. I can give them up any time I like, it's not that I'm addicted or anything, honest.

Are you putting on a show this year?

Cheers

TodCreasey31 Jan 2009 4:57 p.m. PST

My 2009 28mm WWII project may see some big buys while the pound is so weak but I managed to stay ahead:

Purchased
42 28mm WWII

Painted
38 28mm WWII
164 6mm Napoleonics

+12 for the year so far

Zagloba31 Jan 2009 5:19 p.m. PST

I was up 36 to 6 until Old Glory showed some unexpectedly quick service, getting an order to me yesterday. So now:

Painted:
24 28mm Pathans
12 28mm Colonial British

Bought:
100 10mm ECW
100 10mm French Napoleonics
10 28mm U.S. Riflemen
8 28mm OG 2nd ed French Nap.
8 28mm Indian mountain gunners
6 28mm mules
6 28mm British Field Hospital.

So 36 painted 28mm vs 36 bought 28mm and 200 bought 10mm.

The colonial stuff is for a game I'm running at Genghiscon, the rest is 'test' stuff to see what project I want to get into next.

So Feb. I hope to finish the last of my Pathans and British/Indians, start a Warmaster Ancients Dacian army, and finish off the LotR plastics I have lying around in anticipation of War of the Ring. For purchases it will probably be a bad month, with random GenghisCon purchases and probably a box or 2 of LotR plastics.

That time already?

Purchases: 0 (it's that unemployment thing)
Painted: ~4 (too tired to actually go look)

timlillig31 Jan 2009 7:56 p.m. PST

I painted quite a bit, considering my relatively low free time.

+28 celtos orcs
+1 reaper ogre
+2 RAFM cthulhu creatures
+5 Heresy Sci-fi inspectors
+5 Black Hat Cephelods
+22 rock terrain pieces

Also, the lack of free time means I bought nothing.

January painted +63
January bought -0
January total +63-0=63
2009 total +63-0=63

Stosstruppen31 Jan 2009 8:30 p.m. PST

Bought;

16 15mm Tarletons Cavalry for AWI

4 15mm SYW Austrian Dragoons to sell
82 6mm French Napoleonics

Barks131 Jan 2009 8:56 p.m. PST

Good start to the year for me.

Bought- nil.

Painted: 19 (13 Rohirrim, 2 trolls, 4 Khazad Guard)

Several of these had been sitting around defying me for ages, but no longer!

Cosmic Reset31 Jan 2009 10:20 p.m. PST

Did great until Jan 4th, haven't painted anything since.

Painted in January:
28x 15mm Peter Pig African militia, mercs, and civilians
15x 1/285 Arab houses
9x 28mm Space Orks

For the month and year:
Painted 52
Bought 0

So far, so good. No planned purchases for Feb, and hopefully can find some time to paint soon.

Jovian131 Jan 2009 10:55 p.m. PST

Well, since I joined the pledge this year – I may as well fess up and post with the rest of you:

Purchased:
1 Confrontation
1 GW Hero
2 Dragonblood figures (pre-orders should ship mid-February)
1 GW Landspeeder
10 GW Swordsmen
Total: 15

Painted:
12 Space Marines (filled out 3 squads to full 10 men)
1 Landspeeder Typhoon
6 Outriders
Total: 19

Started:
10 Confrontation
10 GW Empire Crossbowmen
10 GW Swordsmen

Net Gain on Painted vs Purchased = +4 figures painted

Not looking good for me – as I am planning a HUGE purchase for my birthday this year – both sides for France 1940 – just waiting to see how all the finances shake out and plan what I want to purchase.

On a side note – if you PAID somebody else to paint them does that count???

If so, then I am up another 24 figures of 15mm cavalry – 12 for my Byzantines and 12 for my Mongols. Yeah me!

Ravens Forge Miniatures31 Jan 2009 10:56 p.m. PST

Well, despite not really taking the Pledge, I've had a good start for the year:

Games:
1 – 25mm AWI – Battle of Cowpens using "loose files and American scramble" rules. We are going to be using these rules for more AWI gaming, and I am thinking about using it for FIW.

Painted:
25 15mm Arabs from Stone Mountain. Painted in a blue color scheme (taureg). This is for Project #1 of 2009 – French Foriegn Legion.

16 (8 large, 8 small) scratchbuilt 6mm sci-fi buildings. In a green color scheme.

Bought:
70 15mm red and green martians by Black Hat (bought form Scale Creep), for Project #2 of 2009 – John Carter of Mars skirmish.

1,500 3/4" outside diameter fender washers, for basing 15mm figs. No, I don't have 1,500 15mm figss that need basing. Maybe a few hundred. BUT I CAN DREAM!

Sold:
2 OOP DragonTooth figures, for way more than I ever thought I could get for them.

This year, I plan on gaming more, painting more, working hard to finish at least three projects: 15mm French Foriegn Legion; 15mm John Carter of Mars; 10 or 15mm (I can't decide) FIW: and continuing the attempted sell off of almost all of my 25+mm scale figs. I will work on other stuff along – I want to build a new fleet for spaceship gaming for one – but those are the areas I plan to concentrate on.

Take Care Y'all,
Bo

Gunfreak01 Feb 2009 8:15 a.m. PST

So far this month I've painted 12 Western figs, they were't even part of my plan/pledge

I've also painted about 12 samurai for my diorama but it goes slow.

My Napoleonic skimrsh goes slow, I've painted up mabye 20 most of them Alban and some perry.

On my to BIG projects I've done nothing during January. But I did cheat and have probebly painted 100 7YW figs and 100 ACW figs.

I'm as I type this waiting for the prime to dry on some 7YW figs so I can paint them up later today, I will also send 180 figs to reenforcemnets by post because I realy don't want to paint those all white french

mweaver01 Feb 2009 8:53 a.m. PST

My pledge for 2009 is a bit complicated. Actually, it is two pledges, one based on how many figures I paint, and one based on weight loss. So, if anyone is interested:

Pledge Rules:

1. Number of figures: My ratio for 2009 is two figures painted for every purchase – but this year I have to paint before I can purchase. My monthly average last year was 36 figures a month, so I started the year able to purchase 18 figures, max.

2. Budget: we had a lot of expenses pile up on us last year, so I am trying to impose a budget on hobby/gaming expenditures. As I did (successfully) in 2006, I am tying my monthly budget to my weight – which started creeping up again last year (after a considerable drop in 2006 and a slight continued drop in 2007). I started this year at 176 pounds. I have a base hobby budget of $100. USD When I weigh myself at the end of the month, for every "new" pound I've lost compared to where I was the previous month, I can add $10 USD to the budget. For every pound I am below 176 (excluding the "new" pounds since the previous month), I can add $5. USD If I gain weight compared to the previous month, the penalty is -$10 per pound.

Yesterday I weighed 169, so that's 7 new pounds x $10 USD + $100 USD base = $170 USD (but if I weigh 169 at the end of Feb., it will be only $135).

January totals

Painted:

2 Eureka Flying monkeys
2 GW plastic Mordheim merc. figures
1 GW plastic Dark Elf corsair
27 Mighty Empires tiles
2 Misc. bits of dungeon/town decor

Purchased:
2 Reaper figures (Dandy Francheska and dwarf valkyrie) [$10]
7 GW Ork battle wagon (counting it as the equivalent of 7 figures) [$48]

Non-miniature hobby purchases:
Half the cost of a couple of Keebler molds: $29 USD
Two pots of Paint: $5 USD

Total Painted, Jan: 34
Total Purchased, Jan: 9

Previously Available for purchase: 18
Adjustment for January: +8
Available for purchase in February: 26

Budget in January: $100 USD
Expenditures: $92 USD
Weight Adjustment: +$70
Budget for February: $178 USD

I see some plastic lizardmen in my future.

eddy195701 Feb 2009 10:05 a.m. PST

Bought: 0

Painted: 70 ECW Cavalry, Perry Miniatures and Bicorne

mweaver01 Feb 2009 11:08 a.m. PST

Well done, eddy! That's a lot of figures!!

highlandcatfrog01 Feb 2009 11:57 a.m. PST

O.K., here's my first ever Pledge report, since this is the first year I've officially taken it.

To review: I'm not going to assign a different "weight" to different scales, as I've got unpainted stuff in almost every scale imaginable. Cavalry will count as 2 (horse and rider) but that's it. Also, I'm not counting any figures as "finished" until they are ready for the game table, i.e. painted, sealed, based, and the base finished. So there will be figures counted each month that were previously painted but the bases not done, and there will be figures not counted because the bases aren't completed yet.

Additionally, I'd like a ratio of at least 4:1 finished:bought.

So for Jan. 2009 we have:

Bought:0 (First time I've managed that in years, credit to my impending job loss.)

Sold:0 (Need to list a few things in the Marketplace but still been too lazy. Hopefully will do so at the end of this week.)

Finished but don't count: 40 smoke markers for 1/2000 Napoleonic naval
10 bases 25 mm archer stakes.
(These don't count because they were scratch built; somewhere on Unpainted Lead Mountain I've got metal archer stakes, they will count if and when I find and paint them.)

Finished: 6 1/2000 Napoleonic ships
18 1/2400 WW II ships
166 15 mm ACW
69 15 mm ancients
16 28 mm Vikings
6 25 mm sheep

So in total I'm +281 for the year thus far. Hope I do this well every month!

mweaver01 Feb 2009 12:08 p.m. PST

That is a good start.

I count horse and riders as "2", too.

imrael01 Feb 2009 12:38 p.m. PST

Bought – zero

Painted – about 25 28mm Celts.

Also bought some raw materials (do they count?) and turned out 4 wreecked buildings for a Mordheim game.

+25

GypsyComet01 Feb 2009 2:03 p.m. PST

A bad month. Lets just say I was invaded by 15mm WWII Soviets and leave it at that. I did finish two GZG androids (well, one is more properly a Gynoid), but the month was otherwise spectacularly unproductive.

I should have a full accounting later.

nycjadie01 Feb 2009 3:26 p.m. PST

I have a question. What if I started a miniature last year, but did not finish the base, shield and weapons until this year? If it counts for this year, I'm going to have a big month.

Painted – 56 Normans, 10 Nurgle Plaguebearers, all 28mm

If I count them for this year, I'll probably add another 50-60 or so. The goal this year is to paint 50-60 a month. I count cavalry as two, giants as 5 and regular foot as 1. All are 28mm. At this rate, I might be able to pick it up.

I don't count the buying/painting ratio as I collect old miniatures. If I counted all the old and broken miniatures I buy, I'd go crazy.

Total will be revised later pending my new count.

Dave Knight01 Feb 2009 4:22 p.m. PST

Painted 31
Purchased zero

I count all human figures as 1 and anything without figures (eg an artillery pice or sa ship as 1)

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER01 Feb 2009 6:27 p.m. PST

While not a pledger , I've painted 238 15s, and only bought 24. I have a pack of 15mm cav on order, but no other major purchases planned so far.

mweaver01 Feb 2009 6:37 p.m. PST

"I have a question. What if I started a miniature last year, but did not finish the base, shield and weapons until this year? If it counts for this year, I'm going to have a big month."

I usually count figures if I don't do the bases. But highlandcatfrog noted above that he only counts them once they are based. I think the main thing is to be consistent with yourself.

ElGrego01 Feb 2009 10:02 p.m. PST

Well, let's look at the numbers:

Purchased = 0

Painted = 0

Carry-over from 2008 = 0 (I actually hope this number goes up – there are two packs of GHQ German DD's somewhere in my collection but I can not find them)

Helps to start the year with a brand new project!

streetline02 Feb 2009 7:59 a.m. PST
