Pledge Update for January 2009

Time for my first pledge update of the year. For me the pledge is based on reducing the size of the unpainted pile, i.e. figures painted/sold vs. figures acquired, with assorted conversion factors between the different scales thrown in. After all, it's easier to paint up 30 15mm figures than it is to do the same number in 28mm. I've blown it 4 out of the last 5 years, though two years were pretty close. New for this year is the goal of finishing one project per month to try and actually complete a few of the things I've started. Ahem, now the Pledge Status for January 2009.

Painted: 128 15mm infantry and 43 15mm cavalry (mostly Romans)
Acquired: 74 28mm figures (Shadowforge, Dark Age, and Hydra Robot Legion)
Sold off: 32 15mm cavalry and about 110 15mm infantry (ACW stuff)

After applying the equation to reduce everything to 28mm figures, the painting/selling puts me ahead by 48 figures for the year. The lead pile grows smaller!

The other half of the pledge is also fulfilled for the month. I declared that I would finish off my Field of Glory Republican Roman army in 15mm with its double infantry component. This was successfully completed and I have played a game with this army. Further, I looked at my 15mm ACW project and declared it complete after finishing off a handful of mounted officers and then I sold off the extra toys, so actually I have two projects done for the year. Success!

(But K! I hear someone say, that's 14-1500 ACW figures painted up in 2007-2008, you put on 4-5 games with them last year, and yet you are claiming the project for 2009? What gives? Yes, I take credit for 2009 for ending this project. I looked at all the stuff I had left, determined what needed to be finished, did that, and sold the rest to fellow TMPers. With no more unpainted ACW figures left in the house, the project is complete as of now. The goal is to complete projects, ideally armies that have been hanging around for a while, but it could be just a group of 15 figures I thought were cool. This matches that criteria, and it feels good!)

For February, I state that the intended project is that I will finish off my 15mm British Napoleonic army. I'm down to four units left with about 100 figures, so that should put the kibosh on a largish project. Charge!

Hey, no fair posting this so soon. I've still got 22 1/4 hours left in the month, and I plan on finishing a few more figs during that time. grin

Sounds like you've got off to a good start for the year!

I get distracted too easily for pledges.

Nothing bought, nothing painted…

I have pledged a new "frugality" this year. No figure purchases until I'm actually ready to paint them. That should allow me to cut into my lead stockpiles and make real progress on the projects that are important to me. How did I do in my first month?

I bought no new figures. That's soooo unusual.

I painted:
20 RAFM Space 1889 figures
28 OG 25mm War of 1812 figures
4 1/1200 Sky Galleons of Mars

So a total of 52 figures for the month. Not earth-shattering, but it keeps me on track.

I'm still slowly painting my way through my IG tanks. Bought some new ORC vehicles and buildings so no real progress there. The new figures I bought don't count as additions as I bought them painted.

It was a slow month with way too much going on. I only managed one day of painting but managed to complete 128 6mm French line Napoleonics. So I feel I did OK. This is a new era which I purchased the figs for about two years ago. I'ts nice to see them get a good start.

Purchsed:
None
Painted:
