I THINK that the ones in the early 90s remake were still bug eyed, just slightly more realistic looking. |

Elijah, So, it was redone then? Early 90s? I'll dig it up then. However, if anyone finds the images before I do, could you share the links? Thanks. CC |
| Kayl MacLaren | 13 Oct 2007 3:36 p.m. PST |
Dunno if they were more realistic, but I believe they were a bit more "dinosaurian" in the remake. Difficult to find pics
is that a sign of a lack of popularity for the 90's series? picture (For any purists, if this isn't one of the new sleestak, don't kill me. I hated the 90's show anyway. Long live the original Sleestak!) |
| elijahdprophet | 13 Oct 2007 3:39 p.m. PST |
Kayl, you are correct. The pictures I saw were 'modern' interpretations of the original Sleestak. Now that I see that image I remember the remake changing them to saurians. |

No. The 90's remake had three Sleestak -- all three were non-bugeyed, and somewhat resembled your basic reptile men, although they wore clothes and used metal weapons. Kind of like "Saurians go to RenFaire." Their eyes were humanoid, not reptilian or bulgy. One of the Sleestak in the remake was intelligent and evil, and was saddled with two bumbling comic-relief minions. The remake had two things going for it: better special effects, and the addition of a bikini-clad jungle girl as a regular. Aside from that, the seventies version was far superior, particularly in the area of scripts. |

CC, as a fan of the ORIGINAL 'Land of the Lost', I can tell you and everyone else that all the Sleestak in that particular incarnation had those jeweled, bug eyes. BTW, I just found this! "Holly" and "Enik", circa 2006: picture |

I just had a TERRIBLE nightmare
.. I dreamed that Peter Jackson finally finished 'The Hobbit' and was given the task of filming 'HALO'
and the movie was FANTASTIC!!!
and in the final scene

My memory is not what it used to be . . . Did the original Sleestak have weaponry of any kind, or did they just hiss people to death. CC |

I seem to recall crude stone-age spears and knives, and the occasional thrown boulder? |
| Doctor Bedlam | 15 Oct 2007 6:14 a.m. PST |
Ohhh, no, boys, No, no, no. Saginaw is correct; all Original Series sleestaks had bug eyes, including Enik. But weaponry? Ahahahahaha. The sleestak technology completely bypassed the longbow and went straight to the CROSSBOW, albeit a kind of screwy little rubber-band powered thing that had an effective range measurable in inches. They'd twang ineffectually, and the bolts would hit the floor within five feet of the shooter. This is what comes of skipping steps on the tech tree, you see. I have heard it said that several members of the Pistons doubled as Sleestak on occasion; they needed tall skinny guys to fit the suits, and it was a way to pick up off-season walkin' money. |

Before Eureka was scared off producing "not" licensed miniatures I submitted the Sleestacks for sculpting at the 100 club. I sent in Images of the VHS cover with the Sleestack on the front. I was going to buy all 100 slots buy then I was laid-off work. Euraka has since stayed away from "look alike" figures. Too bad I've been a huge fan of the show since I was a kid. I want "Classic" Sleestacks not the Three-stooges they became with the 90's remake. The Special effects in the new show were better, but all the cool aspects of LOTL were forgotten. Doctor Deblam is corect. Several basketball players acted as the Sleestacks. |

"As part of the original Land of the Lost demographic (it was great when I was seven), I'm a little mystified. I'm a little nostalgic about the show, but watching a few minutes of it cures that pretty quickly. The idea of watching Will Ferrell star in a re-imagined version of this — with CGI dinosaurs, I suspect — is less than inspiring. Of course, Will Ferrell has a built-in audience, and kids love dinosaurs, but why make it Land of the Lost if that brand doesn't mean anything to the audience? These are the questions I ponder." I have the same question about ALL those remakes. |
| Thieses | 15 Oct 2007 10:27 a.m. PST |
To change the promise of LOTL again is annoying. Even if going campy is the approach, the studio should stick with the original premise of the show. The 70's Superman movies were campy and they turned out fine. |

"Doctor Deblam?" Although Thieses and I are in agreement: give us Original Series Sleestaks, not those gawdawful comic relief lizardmen from the 90s show! |

Must. have. Bug. Eyes. I used to have nightmares about the Sleestak coming to get me when I was a kid. I kept a flashlight handy to flash them in the eyes, since they hated light. I recently introduced MY kids to LOTL thanks to Netflix. Gods, but I love Netflix. They loved it! Hasta |
| Doctor Bedlam | 16 Oct 2007 6:33 a.m. PST |
Must be something about the age at which one encounters the show. I was not frightened of the sleestak, but my sister -- five years younger -- was utterly terrified of them! Whereas I rented the show on VHS years later, when I was in college, and was surprised to see how lame the special effects were -- they'd thrilled me when I was ten. |
| Thieses | 16 Oct 2007 6:45 a.m. PST |
The special effects of the show were always horrific. However, if you ask anyone that remembers the show, what they think of Sleestacks, they all say,"those things scared the heck out of me!" I work in video production and advertising. The one thing you learn on your first day is, product recognition. If everyone remembers the Sleestacks, don't change them! "Just hide the seams to the costumes a little better." The producers of the new LOTL should look at what the BBC has done with the new Doctor Who. Lets take old school villians like the Daleks and just polish them up a bit without redesigning them completely. I own a Classic Slann and a Lizardman army because I think Sleestacks are cool. I just hope they make toys/miniatures. When they produced Krofft action figures they made several characters, but no Sleestacks! |
