Watching Land of the Lost the other day and it occured to me that I've never seen Sleestak in 25/28mm
Do they exist? They'd make a nice Sci-Fi twist to a Darkest Africa or maybe even a Pulp campaign

Cosmic Reset | 26 Jun 2005 11:22 a.m. PST |
Flashman, you okay? Are you hurt? I figure you must have been taken against your will, bound, gagged, drugged, beaten, and some other things too horrible to mention here to be made to watch "Land of the Lost". Regarding your question, I've not seen any such critters in minaturedom. |
Scurvy | 26 Jun 2005 11:26 a.m. PST |
Mary Jane can make any of these sorts of old sci fi shows good again. Im sure there are quite a few figs that will make acceptable proxies. Got a pic of a Sleestak? |
The Gonk | 26 Jun 2005 12:08 p.m. PST |
Many Jane can also improve the suitability of your proxies, too, so I'd say you're in good shape. ;-) |

Never seen miniatures of them, either. It's a shame, though, since alot of gamers would love to own something as cool as those, but the licensing rights and so forth
. Hey, I liked 'Land of the Lost', and I mean the original version that aired on NBC Saturday mornings back in the '70s. Had a crush on "Holly" back then. I hear she dyes her hair jet black nowadays. I can't tell y'all how many times I tried to replicate "Grumpy" or "Dopey" with my little cans of Play-Doh. Trivia: Which ex-NBA basketball player played a Sleestak? |

Does anyone have any pictures of the Sleestack from the remake of Land-of-the-Lost that was done in the 90s? I seem to remember that the Sleestak civilization in the second version of the show was a little more advanced still. They were still a fallen civilization, but they ocassionally had gizmos that their royalty would show up with once in a while. And what was that little "Wrr'a'horri" guy (The little apeman
|
Doctor Bedlam | 26 Jun 2005 6:31 p.m. PST |
The little ape guy's name was Chaka. Never seen a Sleestak mini, but it seems like they'd be fairly easy to mod
|
Conquest Miniatures | 26 Jun 2005 7:58 p.m. PST |
The guy who did my pygmies zombies has done a few sleestack look-alikes. Maybe I should cast them. |
CorpCommander | 26 Jun 2005 8:09 p.m. PST |
When they re-image Land of the Lost for the movie I wonder if they will stick with slow sleestaks or do like 28 Days Later and have fast ones? :-) |
Javier Barriopedro aka DokZ | 26 Jun 2005 8:15 p.m. PST |
Oooohhh
Those were the days! The sleestak were the only reason to see that lamebutt show. I always wanted to see them hunt and kill Chaka, but that's how I learned some wishes will never come true. I'd suggest you convert humanoids or buy some dollies so you can sculpt the green menace from the past. |
Beastman of Barsoom | 26 Jun 2005 9:01 p.m. PST |
I use RAFM Cthulhu series "Deep Ones" as my Sleestak equivalent. I know, there not exactly sleestaks, but a mod is very possible with these. |
Eclectic Wave | 27 Jun 2005 7:45 a.m. PST |
Beware of the Sleestak minatures. |
wordwildwebb | 27 Jun 2005 7:55 a.m. PST |
Some of the Sahuagin minis from D&D prepaints should work ok – maybe with a few mods. Ditto those "deep ones" from RAFM. |
bollix | 27 Jun 2005 10:28 a.m. PST |
Conquest: I'd love to see you make some of these figures – I'd buy them if they were fairly close to the ones on the show. Member, LOTLFA (Land of the Lost Fans Anonymous) |
aecurtis | 27 Jun 2005 8:02 p.m. PST |
Eric, please *do* cast them. (Like Cary, I'd prefer them pretty close to the show.) My wife was a big LOTL fan, and surely they'd be a good assition to the Improbable Armies range. And Saginaw: it was Bill Laimbeer. Allen |
aecurtis | 27 Jun 2005 8:03 p.m. PST |
"Assition"? And I haven't even been in touch with Mary Jane
Sheesh. "Addition". Allen |
aecurtis | 27 Jun 2005 8:21 p.m. PST |
Here's another trivia question for you: who developed the language for the Pakuni (Cha-Ka's people)? Allen |
Javier Barriopedro aka DokZ | 27 Jun 2005 10:39 p.m. PST |
HA! That was my nickname: being Francisco Javier, Franciscos are called "Pacos" by those close to them. Paco devolved into Pakuni, and that was what the neighbourhood kids called me for quiet a few years
Anyway, to try to answer the trivia: I seem to remember it was athing a couple of guys, real nobodies by the names Larry Niven and Theodore Sturgeon got a going as a pitch and playing around with it until Victoria Fromkin came in o board and put it all together. I remember another nobody, a Ben Bova, writing for the show
I wonder whatever happened to those three guys? I mean I was kid then, and I juts watched the original run (and some season 2 episodes) in Mexico City. ;D |

Any word on whether these were ever made? |
Thieses | 02 Oct 2006 6:27 a.m. PST |
Several years ago I tried to get Eureka's 100 club to sculpt some Sleestacks (the old school ones not the early 90's) They had just had their hands slapped for IP problems so they wouldn't pick up the project. I was going to buy all 100 slots and then some. I have wanted Sleestacks in 28mm for a very long time. I've stated this on another thread, Sleestacks are the reason I have a Lizardman army, and a vintage Slann army. |
reeves lk | 02 Oct 2006 6:28 a.m. PST |
What ever happen to the Cast? When I was little I had a crush on the girl. |
Mysterioso | 02 Oct 2006 6:51 a.m. PST |
I have been watching these on DVD with my son. As he is little, he would not be into the DVD extras. However, there are cast interviews, etc. Thus I'm sure there is some information on what the cast has done since. As for someone casting figures of Sleestaks up, I too would order quite a few if they were done. Would even order some Pakuni if they were made. (I can't think of any manufacturers that make any "Austrolpithecus with Mullets" in 28mm.) Having rewatched season one, I could easily imagine putting together a VSF or Pulp game in the Land of the Lost. The stories, with the mysterious pylons and crystals, are better than I remembered and have a lot of gaming potential. And using terrain with aqaurium plants and styrofoam stone would be very true to the show! |

The '90's version missing link dude was called "Stink",and the T-Rex,"Scarface". The baby dino, was "Tasha"(named for Pop Porter's dead Mrs.). I had some ideas that Christa may have been related to Holly, but
. Some toy company however did come out w/a line of the 90's version figures, even a version of their SUV. |
daddyslittlemen | 02 Oct 2006 10:54 a.m. PST |
As this Onion article illustrates, some memories are better left alone. link Most old TV I remember fondly is horrible when you go back and watch it. I recently Tivo'd 5 episodes of "Buck Rodgers" and couldn't make it through a single one. I had a similar experience when a few episodes of the old Planet of the Apes TV show came on one night. I'd rather remember "Land of the Lost" as the show my sister and I annoyed my parents with by pretending to be Sleestak on long car trips (imagine a bunch of hissing and parents yelling, good times
) I was also prone to sing the theme song when drunk at college parties, but that's another sotry. |

These look interesting for what you may want: link CC |
Mysterioso | 06 Oct 2006 11:47 a.m. PST |
CC: Nice, maybe too nice for a Sleestak. Also, only the first figure would work at all. Thus the on again, off again desire for bug-eyed ectomorph lizard folk will have to become off-again for a while. |

It'll stop when someone finally makes good set of the things. I could see them popping up in Khurasan's Planet 15 range – although his Mystri Island insect men are kind of decent proxies already. |

Wouldn't RAFM's Deep Ones with superglue drops for new eyes work? Just a thought. |
