Come on, won't *someone* sculpt an Entelodont for Leland? (And the rest of us, too.) |
Prophet | 18 Feb 2007 5:20 p.m. PST |
It's on my to-do list. Lot's of prehistoric beasties are far more interesting to me than the made up fantasy versions. |
Cacique Caribe | 18 Feb 2007 6:19 p.m. PST |
I haven't even had a chance to get started yet. So, if Prophet gets to it first, I would love to see what it looks like! CC |

Found a link to a cute critter that some here might like : link |

Patrick R, it's an "Elepig" according to one of the FX posters; simply hilarious looking yes, but not a proper *Entelodont!* CC, I hope you're getting the size of the piggie right; they're damn big beasties! Also, consider fiddling around with a separate *saddle* for the critter. IMHO it'd make a fantastic and hilarious mount for both fantasy and sci-fi characters/cavalry troopers-from-Hell, etc. Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net |

"I hope you're getting the size of the piggie right; they're damn big beasties!" Leland, Here are the numbers I've come up with when scaling those puppies for gaming with figures sized 28mm-30mm: Total length: 48.75mm (Length of head 10mm, Length of neck 13.75, Lenght of body 25mm) Total height: 32.5mm (if using a 30mm human figure as a comparison basis) Does that sound about right to you? Heights I've seen are 6-7 feet tall. Head length is 3 feet (There's a pic with a skull somewhere). Size I've seen described as cow, buffalo, and small rhino. So what you have CC should work. Height 30-35mm. Head length should be 15 though. Total length could be up to 50mm. You're definitely on track. |

It's late, yes, but it somehow seems smaller than the cuddly lil' brute menacing Olduvai George on his homepage
. or is it just late and I need to stop looking at measuring devices (after mounting four Ikea glass display cases in the game room tonight)

If you go with a simple 6'=30mm then 7 feet tall and 10 feet long would come out to 35mm tall and 50mm long. The length may be a bit generous, but there doesn't seem to be much consensus from my admittedly brief search. How big did you have in mind? |

Hey guys, I worked on an armature of sorts last night and came up with a body "dolly" that, in concept, may be used to create consistent Entelodont body types that may be fleshed out with Green Stuff. I will take some photos tonight. The head is next. Little by little, I think it can be done in our lifetime. CC |

That is wonderful! Between that and the other images I have collected, I should be able to replicate the bulk when I flesh out the "dolly". I will keep you updated on developments. CC |

Leland, Take a look at "When Shagrat Met Piggy": link Let me know what you think of this polymer clay armature for the body. Thanks. CC |

CC, excellent! You've captured the size and proportions of the Entelodont's body quite handsomely indeed! And Shag better watch his back around that thing! These "piggies" IMHO make a Warg look like a Chihuahua puppy by comparison

Leland, My wife is out of town for the next couple of days, so I should be able to attempt the head and neck armature next. It will be sort of like a filled-in skull that, I hope, will minimize the use of Green Stuff during the fleshing out of details. I'll definitely keep you in the loop, my friend. CC |

This other thread on the Sculpting Discussion board may provide additional suggestions on the armature and subsequent mould and casting process: TMP link As you can see, I am still not absolutely sure if a polymer clay (Sculpey) understructure or armature will result in a viable base for the model(s).
