I saw a news post with a headline only that these rules were to be distribute privately. Um. . .how does THAT work? I would like to obtain one! Thanks in advance!

"Private distribution"-Youre waling down the sidewalk, minding your own business,as you pass an alley, some guy in a trenchcoat steps out and whispers"Hey buddy, lookin for a ruleset?"….

Well, technically, that would be better than my current arrangement at my local hobbytown. . . .

mashrewba12 Dec 2009 4:10 p.m. PST

Maybe through, private shops…

I also would want a copy! It has been to long for a update! Mike Adams

Keraunos14 Dec 2009 2:56 a.m. PST

that sounds like a misunderstanding to me.

there was a posting from Arty that he was optimistic of full release around about now – presumably another slippage, but even so.

We are playtesting them at our club, the rules are done, and are great.

My bet is you found an old ad for playtesting, or something directed at distributors, not for the actual gamers release.

I suspect that Endless Grubs may be referring to this twelve-year-old TMP posting from Arty Conliffe: TMP link

Scott, thaks for the link. Now only if they would release T11!!! Mike Adams P.S. Does anyone want to sell one copy?

brevior est vita14 Dec 2009 7:57 a.m. PST

Well, the new version was once known as "Tactica 2000," so…

Well some people believe in playtesting a game alot to make sure it works, unlike a number of rules that have come out and you have to scratch your head and ask why didnt someone playtest this game first.

If you look at the news discussion for last Saturday, it's the last item by coRPse. I saw that and thought Arty must have finally got around to it 19 years later. . . .

RABeery15 Dec 2009 12:38 a.m. PST

The messages are public on the Tactica Yahoo group. I think he said it'll be available this or next month.

Since the link only leads to a statement that "There is no Topic with this ID number," I had assumed that it would be difficult to draw any solid conclusions from that. wink

The most recent promise appears to be that "the game should be out by Christmas": link

If and when Tactica is finally released to the public at large, it will be interesting to see what the response will be. guinness

Scott. my friends and I have been playing Tactica since it first came out. We as a group have been waiting for a LONG time for this set!! Thanks Mike Adams

I played a lot of Tactica when it came out. Liked the system but not real fond of the listed armies. I'd like to see what Arty has come up with.

Thanks,

John

Hi John, you're right about the listed armies in Tactica, but it should be changing quite a bit for the second edition. There's a points system, with specified percentage ranges for the troop types in an army so that you can scale the game to fit your collection. Unit sizes can also vary, within limits. Depending on the number of figures in a unit, several deployment options are available. The rules also attempt to model the Republican Roman army system and the "Marian" and later legionary systems differently from most other armies.

The main question I suppose is how the rules will be published, and how many armies will be included. I suspect there will be a hard copy with a few sample armies, and (hopefully!) a web presence for other lists and player-generated options of various kinds. I'd like to see this because it would be good to have historical scenarios as well as well researched lists.

I have been a member of one of the playtest groups for the second edition, with Keraunos and others. I think everything I've mentioned is pretty much available as information on the web already, just not all in the one place…

Cheers

Paul. they said Christmas what year? I as have said been waiting a LONG time for these!!! How soon will they be out?Mike Adams

Caliban Supporting Member of TMP18 Dec 2009 9:26 a.m. PST

Hi Mike, you're not the only who has been waiting a while. The most recent information I have comes from a post Arty Conliffe made on the Tactica II yahoo group – it seems that he is hoping they will be out this Christmas (ie 2009). This is the point made by Scott above in an earlier posting. Haven't seen anything else since, so being realistic, I suppose it will be into the new year…

In the meantime, I'm keeping an eye on the discussion group and elsewhere. One good thing about a discussion like this is that it raises the profile, which can only be a good thing?

Cheers to all again

Paul

Hi everyone, just a quick update. Arty Conliffe has posted a message on the Tactica Yahoo Group to the effect that he is now indexing Tactica II; he says he's hoping for it to be published soon.

I hope it all works out; we have committed to a large Society of Ancients Zama game at Carronade in Falkirk this May, and it would seem to sensible to be able to show any passers-by the rules we will be using!

Cheers again

Will this game be traveling south the SOA battle day before this date in April?

This is always my favorite day on the wargame calender.

Hi Martyn, I'd love to travel with the Tactica II version of Zama, but it won't be possible, for various reasons. We will be struggling to put together the Carthaginian army and the Numidian contingents from our club members' collections, so we are calling in some reinforcements from elsewhere. Despite my ongoing family commitments, I'll be able to manage Carronade and then Claymore, but that's with plenty of advance notice. We may be able to stretch it earlier to coincide with the Battle Day in England in April, but anything more is very unlikely.

Once things calm down a bit, or at least until the kids get a bit older, I might be able to commit to more than this, but it could be a while…

Cheers
