I mean, if they are THAT seriously concerned that the ice thaw might release dangerous pathogens, shouldn't the ones who were conducting research at those same Arctic/Antarctic sites be locked up, away from anyone else in some extended quarantine, until given all manner of physically intrusive medical tests and given an all-clear?

Just kidding of course, about the extended quarantine. It could be kept down to a few days of tests. Yes, a joke.
But I just heard another one of those drama grants queens on tv earlier today. Well, okay, it was my wife who was watching that in the news. I just heard it from a distance. What a joke, of the manipulative kind.
They want us to panic about what deadly bugs might be brought back to us inadvertently, but it's okay if they constantly travel to those "dangerous" spots back and forth without any protection. They haven't found any, but they still want us to panic and open our (and our governments') wallets for more of the same "research".
And, while we're at it, let's quarantine cave explorers too! And jungle researchers! Think of the bugs they might bring back with them! Yes, another joke.
Maybe I should have crossposted this to Rants.
Man, I still can't believe Michael Clarke Duncan is gone. He was too cool.

PS. And guess what is playing on Cinemax right now … The Thaw (2009), with Val Kilmer. Let me warn you, it will be a very disappointing hour and 25 minutes if you try to watch it. Almost as bad as some news interviews. :)
