Or as I think it's a virus. but it's still locked. Any hints how to get out of it? Other than sending them 200 dollars from some pay up. I had to get into a guest setup on my computer to get on line. It is even frozen without connecting to the internet. All my troop lists are gone without it.

Try rebooting into safe mode so that you can run the anti-virus. You should be able to do something with it then.

This is a rapidly growing extortion effort. If you get something from the FBI or Homeland Security telling you your computer is locked do not click on any link in the email.

Try and do a system restore to a day or two before the day you got hit. (You'll probably have to reboot in Safe Mode. After that, be careful of the sites you're visiting.

Caution: the latest permutation will block booting in Safe Mode too. Then it's off to your computer geek for help.

If you are able to reboot in Safe Mode run Malwarebytes to get rid of the Bleeped text.

You can also try the Kaspersky Anti-virus Removal Tool.
That has worked for me more than once.

Make sure your proxy settings are not set to localhost. That is one way these things "freeze" you. Malwarebytes is a very good program to get rid of malware and scareware. Much of this will have to be done in safe mode as other suggest.

I had the same here – this is the solution that worked, courtesy of Micman

Yeap, I had the UK version recently.

Hit F8 on startup to get the option to reboot in safe mode and once loaded run mawarebytes. Norton's couldn't find it of course!

If you don't have malwarebytes akready then goe 'safemose with network connections' so you can still access the internet to download malwarebytes.

Last night I ran my virus program again for giggles mostly having ran it almost every day since last Thursday while getting ready to go to bed. Lo and behold before it finished it caught two viruses but when it finished I turned it off. Got on after work today and I can get back on my computer screen. I really wish I found the person who does this and would climb on their roof, tear a few holes in their roof and send them a letter sayning give me 200dollars and I'll come fix your roof. Or go in their basement and cut out a foot of plumbing and do the same thing.
