For any who might like to take a chance at reenacting the 17th century, there will be a "School of the Musketeer" covering 1580 through 1650, held in Philadelphia, PA, April 18, 19 and 20, 2008 in a brick and mortar Rev War fort! (Fort Mifflin, and for the Google Earth fans, 39° 52' 31.32" N, 75° 12' 47.25" W. ) You will learn to fire a matchlock, crew and fire a cannon, handle a pike (it's not just a pointy stick), and swing a sword (with blunts, of course).
Civilian classes are to be announced, but have included in the past period games, medicine, and writings.
Period food is provided, $30 USD for pre-registration for the weekend, including meals. One day is $20 USD , which includes lunch.

For more details (and there are lots of them) and registration information see link
Registrations must be received by March 31, 2008.

Wish I lived in the area. I'd check it out.

You should add that 'anyone injured during the reenactment, or at any time during attendance, will be treated with the latest, cutting edge-medicine that the 17th century has to provide'. That should pack 'em in!

We do, upon occasion, have classes in period medicine.

Where do you live? There are similar classes on the west coast, but if I had to guess, judging from your handle, you're not on this continent.

That is so cool.

I'm in California. And weekends are iffy. But $20 USD for a day of fun like that would be awesome.

I'll make inquireys about a west coast version. I'm pretty sure there is a "class".

It's being held near Sacramento, CA. First Weekend in April. Event is "All Arms", and they have a cavalry element.
