I have sculpted clothes successfully in the past, and when I started sculpting robes onto a figure the other day I'd been expecting it to be a very easy conversion. But suddenly I'm having extreme difficulties getting it to look right. It's the free-flowing fabric that's giving me trouble: I can't get the big, deep folds right. The clothes I've sculpted in the past have hugged the body closer so they've only required shallower folds. I did block out the basic shape of the robe (sans folds) underneath. Perhaps I shouldn't have. Anyway, tips are highly welcome. Illustrated tutorials, even more so. |

Block out the basic shape and then use rolls of green stuff(or whatever) to add the bigger folds. Just work the edges back into the base layer. |

if you want super dynamich, Rackham style herioc robes don't beother filling out your legs, rab your GS, let a lump aside for a while (ten minutes or so) them, squeeze it out into a big square, as tall as the figure and wide enough to go round loosely, this done, wrap it round, fix the edges together and squidge it at the top to give it good purchase, now, pull the bottom out, get your tool in and drag it out carefully, keep doing this all the way round, pushing it back in between, eventually you will have a windblow, super dynamic cloak, any finger prints can be covered up with a second layer of GS |

Another one that works, but not for re-casting – I have a feeling it was from a GW rag – is to build up the base with 'Blue Tack' or one of the other temporary poster hanging goos. Then you make the robe with epoxy (or whatever)over that, and when the outer layer has set you pick out the 'blue tack' leaving a thin flowing robe. |
