Remember this? TMP link Ok. So my first "28mm robotic spider" project attempt may not work for my purposes after all . . . I could not find materials to make it any smaller than 22-25mm, but I went ahead anyway. The result is something easy and rather inexpensive (less than 10 cents a piece) that may not work for me, but may appeal to those gaming smaller "scales". Pics available upon request. Shoot me an email if interested: daniel DOT martinez1 AT sbcglobal DOT net CC PS. I will also try to post them somewhere accessible as soon as possible. |

And, in case you are wondering, this is really what I was shooting for: picture picture CC |
nvdoyle | 30 Nov 2006 10:01 p.m. PST |
I think those are just fine for creepy robotic spiders, at 25/28mm. How'd you get the legs to stick to tbe back of the body? |
Cacique Caribe | 30 Nov 2006 10:13 p.m. PST |
Ahhh. Nvdoyle, did you get the five photos I sent you? If so, please note the very first one . . . The trick is the 10mm heart-shaped beads I used. They come perforated through the middle (which means from the bottom of the heart to the top) which makes for a great place to insert the three wires in what will become the back of the spider. CC |
nvdoyle | 30 Nov 2006 10:38 p.m. PST |
Oh, I see – all 3 of the wires did fit into the hole. That's pretty cool, I'll have to put those on the list
Here's another tripod for you
bit more expensive, though: link Hit the 'photos' link to the right for more pics. |

I'm hoping to get my versions of what your after finished tonight. So will post pictures as soon as I have them. What you have produced so far looks great though and so cheap. Jeremey minigerm.com |

Yeek.. Dunno, for that price, I expect 1:1 scale, and possibly capable of making me a sandwich. |

CC, I did a martian walker a bit ago. I posted about it on TMP a while back. I used an old mouse for the body and disposable razorblade handles for the legs. Maybe you could adapt the idea to be more in line with the look you want. Heres a link to some pics on my blog. link I got the beastie painted but I havent gotten any pictures of it done yet. I will post them as soo as I do. Cheers GeorgeD |

I was thining that the kind of transistors you find on a mother board would do nicely -- the kind that look like two or three wires held together by a bit of melted plastic or rubber. Too big for what you're thinking of, but would do nicely to make alien recon bots. |
Barry S | 08 Dec 2006 6:33 a.m. PST |
CC, Thanks fro the photos. I'm going to have a look around for appropriate items here in Oz and try and make some for my 15mm gaming. Cheers, Barry |

Javelin98 Great idea! I knew I was keeping all that old 'puter junk for some reason ;-) Noberto |
Cacique Caribe | 08 Dec 2006 7:15 a.m. PST |
Barry, Now that I am finding it difficult to go smaller (as spiders for 28mm), maybe I will try to go larger (as tripods for 15mm). If I come up with something useful to you, I will make sure to let you know. I guess I only have one question: For 15mm gaming, how tall would a Martian tripod be? CC |
J Womack 94 | 07 Feb 2007 2:59 p.m. PST |
How tall do you want it to be, in scale? Multiply feet in height times about 2.5 and that is your height in mm for the thing, assuming that 15mm = 6 feet tall. So if you wanted it to be 100 feet tall, you're looking at 25 cm tall. That would look mighty imposing on a 15mm battlefield. |
Cacique Caribe | 25 Feb 2007 12:35 a.m. PST |
As someone pointed out, maybe adding legs to these might just do the work! link picture I wonder how big they are, though. Thanks. CC |

The Necron scarabs? Well, you can judge by the 40mm round base they're glued to

However, imagine these little cuties coming after you (or after Tom Cruise) in a tunnel, sewer, etc. . . . (Basically the same image. I just wanted to increase the odds of providing working links) picture picture picture picture This one looks particularly painful: picture picture Look at the little suckers in action, about a minute into the movie trailer: link link CC |

Tyrruss, "necron scarabs"? If these are it, not a bad idea: picture How big are they anyway? That GW image shows them 4 to a base, but I'm not sure what size bases those are. Thanks. CC |

Hi CC, Please let me know if you find Necron plastic Scarabs
I've been trying to find a source for some time now
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |
Cacique Caribe | 30 Dec 2007 12:11 a.m. PST |
So, how big are those "Necron Scarab" thingies? link CC |
palaeoemrus | 30 Dec 2007 5:03 a.m. PST |
Way too small to be worth six bucks. 12mm x 10mm x 3mm Lovingly handcrafted from genuine high quality space age grey plastic, these beauties are only $1.50 USD apiece when you buy four of them! WOWEE!!! What a deal-a-palooza. The steampunk robo-spiders in the link below are made of metal, somewhat bigger and have a sense of motion to them. Sadly they are also $1.50 USD a piece when you buy four. But less sadly I think. link |

I may eventually pick some of those steam punk spiders up for a rather expensive 15mm "cyber-legion" I'm dreaming of building. So far the plan is: Several Zond and Yao-Kong remotes from the Infinity line for small heavy and fast attack AFV equivalents ($30 per pair) GZG "octank" walkers for heavy armor/artillery equivalents (about $14 USD apiece) Those Spider-things for cannon fodder, ($4.50 for three) GZG 6mm infantry walkers (Hound Dog, Heavy weapons Hound Dogs, Tortoises, Fat-Boys, PanzerKamphers) for gp, assault, fire support, anti-armor, and light infantry(scout/ambushers/infiltrators) ($5.00 for six
I'll probably need lots and lots of these) Maybe some DP9 HG gears, frames, and a few mammoth striders all in the quasi 6mm fleet scale (gears and frames are $20 USD for ten. The Mammoths are $15 USD for three) Two southern HG Sagitarrius Striders for wild salvo missle-fu ($25.00 apiece) Two or more of those Imperial Spider Droids from the LaserBurn line. ($12.00 apiece) Five extra crazy looking guys from the LaserBurn line to make for a techno-priest HQ group running the show. (Probably $.60 USD apiece ) 6 EM-4 plastic mecha I have three with missle launcher arms and three with cannon arms for direct and indirect fire support. (I already have these) Maybe some heavy gears I have left over thrown in as big hero units. (Ditto) ??????? Profit. |

I have 9 of the Wyrd Steampunk spiders. They will be used for both 15mm and 25mm VSF. In 15mm, they are the monstrously huge fiendish creations, in 25mm they are the ingeniously miniaturized fiendish creations. Both created by Professor Otto Maton, of course. |

Are these too far off the mark to be of any use, CC? Maybe the method could be used? link The entire website has some cool ideas. combatzonechronicles.net Sorry for the long sabbatical

Wow. Those are really cool walking grenades! Hopefully they won't get too attached from the guy that sent them out. "Boomerang" or "loyal puppy" grenades would be a problem, I think. :) CC PS. That is an amazing site: link link |
