Has anyone done anything at all that could work as this? picture picture Or would it be best to use small disk-like drones and add wiry legs to one side? CC |
jpattern2 | 28 Nov 2006 12:21 p.m. PST |
That's what I'd do, small disks or bits of sprue (or maybe Germy's 2mm tanks?) with thin solder or wire for legs. |

Deadlands have robot spiders. |
Goldwyrm | 28 Nov 2006 12:35 p.m. PST |
I'd also go with the thin wire legs on a small disk or drone. I initially thought you were looking for the larger cousin: picture |

I would think you could make your own with some green stuff and wire. |

Depending on how BIG you want them
.the top of a Tau Drone with 4 small front claw hands from leftover SST arachnids looks rather cool? |
GypsyComet | 28 Nov 2006 3:01 p.m. PST |
There was a site out there with a fellow's large force of Tau "crawler drones", for which he used the standard drone dome and two pairs of legs from the Necron Tomb Spider. |

My suggestion is the Wyrd Arachanid swarm: link tho they may be a little large for your needs @10mm ( I love those little guys

picture picture These are the characteristics I really like about those Minority Report "Spyders" . . . 1) On the photos, they seem to be about the size of a human hand or a small round portable CD player: picture picture 2) They are very sleek, circular and semi-flat, with very little or nothing in the way of protrusions. 3) What I really, really like is the long, almost flowing, legs that come out of the back of the device. I was almost tempted to use round 5mm plastic baby clothes' buttons, drill a small hole on one side and insert three pieces of something like thin guitar wire. However, if someone has come up with something like it, I would definitely try it. CC |

Oh, yes . . . how many? I would probably go for 15 of them and group them in sets of 3 to a round 25mm (or slightly larger) base. Thanks. CC |

About using Terminators in sewers, tunnels and other confined spaces: TMP link This is what my unpainted spiders (Spyders) look like so far: link CC |

However, imagine these little cuties coming after you (or after Tom Cruise) in a tunnel, sewer, etc. . . . (Basically the same image. I just wanted to increase the odds of providing working links) picture picture picture picture This one looks particularly painful: picture picture Look at the little suckers in action, about a minute into the movie trailer: link link CC |

Has anyone else (other than Jeremey or myself, that is) tried making anything like the Minority Report spiders from scratch since this thread first came out? I would be very, very curious to see your results. Thanks. CC PS. Jeremey's results: TMP link My results: TMP link |

I challenge anyone else to try scratch-build a small set (3 minimum), and then show us how to follow in your footsteps: TMP link CC |

BillChuck | 03 Jul 2008 2:45 p.m. PST |
Huh. I made the spider, but then I forgot about the thread. picture picture picture The body is made from some .040" plastic sheet that I punched disks from with a hole punch. The legs are piano wire. I sanded the plastic into a discus-shaped body, bent the wire legs to shape with pliers, and glued the legs to the body with superglue. I covered the join with another thin (.005"?) piece of plastic. |

The paper clip wire is good for several reasons
strong, the marked surface looks like segment rings, and easy to work with. |

When I first saw the ones in the film, my first thought was "why didn't the machines in Terminator come up with something similar to seek out and destroy humans"? Anyway, they are just sooooo cooool: YouTube link Dan |

I think they are pretty big, i like them a lot but not sure i would use for terminator type stuff, looks more low tech dark future / WWW2 to me. |
