I am livid.

TMP link
TMP link

I am so Bleeped texted with these constant attempts to play lawyers.

I don't know what the motivation is, unless they were themselves planning on making those figures themselves.

If Frothers is going to join the ranks of the envious and the busybodies by keeping gamers from having products no one else wants to make, then they should be the ones who suffer via boycotts.

Shame on them.

CC

Cacique Caribe09 Jun 2006 8:22 a.m. PST

The only ones who will benefit from this spiteful action on the part of Frothers are the unscrupulous scalpers who will now charge 10x more for the same damn figures on ebay!

Way to go Frothers. Thanks for stabbing the gamers in the back.

If you were going to make the figures yourself, then don't complain about this until after you have released what you have. Better yet, release a comparable product and let us, the consumer, decide which is the most appealing line.

Big Miller Bro09 Jun 2006 8:22 a.m. PST

sigh- Frothers did not do anything- I started a thread to discuss IP without names- to show that the issue was not as clear cut as it could be. Then one sculptor mentioned he had reported someone else's predator figures.

There is no Frother's plot to destroy anything… uh that I know of lol….

Cacique Caribe09 Jun 2006 8:24 a.m. PST

"In a recent post at the Frothers Unite website, one of the better-known sculptors in the industry confessed to reporting a game company to a movie studio's legal department for IP infringement."

Don't they moderate their posts?

CC

Cacique Caribe09 Jun 2006 8:27 a.m. PST

"The offending sculptor was Drew Williams of Wizkids – because they have an AVP line coming out shortly."

If General Montcalm's statement is true, then Wizkids is the rat!

CC

nycjadie09 Jun 2006 8:27 a.m. PST

When we get those clicky figures Predator will be even cheaper than Copplestone.

NoNameEither09 Jun 2006 8:30 a.m. PST

CC i think you're getting your wirs crossed.

Frothers didnt report anybody – it wouldnt have made any difference at all, in any way shape or form, if they had deleted any reference to the issue – the guy had already reported the IP infringement.

Frothers simply carried the story.

Don't they moderate their posts?

I think that would be rather more like selective censorship rather than moderation.

Its a valid discussion, BMB poll and posts were legitimate and interesting and its a topic that is close toe very single IP holder's heart (and livelyhood).

If you want to start banning forums from discussing such issue then you are doing nothing other than promoting IP theft by attempting to ban publicity and discussion of IP theft.

If you have a greivance with the raising of the IP question over the Predator figures you are probably far better off speaking to the instigator of the infringement notice – which isnt Frothers.

(And i dont even really post to Frothers or read their forum but, heck, you're going way way off the rails with this – imo)

citizen sade09 Jun 2006 8:30 a.m. PST

Moderate posts? ROFLMAO.

Visit Frothers. They've a laissez-faire approach to moderation and quite right too.

The Gonk09 Jun 2006 8:31 a.m. PST

Looks to me like Frothers' members largely agreed with you. Read their thread before you go mouthing off about them.

Big Mean Elf09 Jun 2006 8:34 a.m. PST

What you typed bra.

I had fun there, but they have about as much right as…well…nobody…except for the persons whom actually own the IP`s in the first place.

I mean if their beloved Kevin sculpts up 2 versions of Kate as she appeared in Under World…they are happy.

I mean if Kevin White is accused of being a thief for his Kates…that is a bit much in my book.

I look at it as a homage really.

I love Blade for example, and I AM going to do a 15MM sculpture of him in his full gear…becuase it is cool, and people will love it.

I think that the only situation which makes it a bad thing…this IP stealing…is when all a particular company has are concepts "Borrowed" from other artist.

Most of us sculptors are working on our own ranges, which are derived from our own ideas and imaginations…so if we do a sculpture of a hero that we love…once in a while…big deal…ain`t nobody trying to be a thief…after all.

:D

"Read their thread before you go mouthing off about them."

Very good advice!

Read post #5 and you will see that Wizkids might the culprit in this case!

CC

GoodBye09 Jun 2006 8:50 a.m. PST

if WizKids is the culprit-I'm going to boycott them.

Neotacha09 Jun 2006 9:00 a.m. PST

CC, Frothers doesn't play at being lawyers any more than TMP members do. Go read more of the site with an open mind, please. Then come back and read TMP. The major difference will be in the tone of the language used.

Is there where the dark-colored cookware gets introduced into the discussion?

shadowcat09 Jun 2006 9:04 a.m. PST

Their is no culprit nothing happened.

CC your are a Bleeped text. Stop mouthing off before reading all the posts.

BME if you sculpted the best Blade figure in the universe you have Bleeped texted off so many people with your stupidity that the sales will be low. Attacking real sculptors is not going to help you.

Cacique Caribe09 Jun 2006 9:06 a.m. PST

YES!

I jumped the gun and title my thread as "Frothers, Mind Your Own Business!".

However, I have since (right away, in fact) sent two complaints to Bill asking that he PLEASE change the title of this thread to "Busybodies, Mind Your Own Business!" or just plain "Mind Your Own Business!".

The subject remains the same: people who maliciously try to keep us (the consumers) from products that no one wants to (or can) make.

CC

Area2309 Jun 2006 9:11 a.m. PST

Duh! At least you read the topic now, CC. Before you accuse an entire forum with indepent members of a certain opinion.
At Frothers' we discuss whatever we think is interesting and it's not moderated.

Thanks to that people give their real opinion. And sometimes it attracts the occasional *****.

As said above, most in that discussion see miniatures like that as a hommage and actually agree with you. So next time read the satanic verses before you attack the supposed offenders.

Cacique Caribe09 Jun 2006 9:12 a.m. PST

"So next time read the satanic verses before you attack the supposed offenders."

Will do, bro.

CC

jeffrsonk09 Jun 2006 9:15 a.m. PST

If the company with the actual license to make actual Predator minis is the one doing the complaining, I'm not sure why CC is all bent out of shape. If WizKids paid the studio the usual boatload of money for the license, then they have standing to be upset about unlicensed knockoffs.

Connard Sage09 Jun 2006 9:24 a.m. PST

[[[If the company with the actual license t…another uninformed rant…]]]

It gets better…what a bunch of sunday school Marys grin

Cacique Caribe09 Jun 2006 9:28 a.m. PST

To Frothers:

I am truly sorry for implicating you with my inflammatory remarks.

If anything, this has taught me the value of thinking first and speaking or typing second, and the value of getting all the facts before making an assumption.

Please accept my deepest and most sincere of apologies.

This is a hobby with 1001+ interests. We've no need for a "Governing body", let alone a member-identity.

Thank u

BTW – I've met Drew Williams. I've sat and painted with him on 3 different occasions. Our little group thought he was a twit and a pompous azz. Seems our assessment then was correct.

Scurvy09 Jun 2006 10:04 a.m. PST

…and crusader didnt read this or the frothers thread. Having your 2c worth is all well n good but its a smart move to make sure your opinion is worth at least 2c.

Your current value is more like 2 peasos Crusader.

Joe face it. Even if you really were the worlds best street fighter pretty much everyone on the planet could out run you anyways. Sorry, but the only thing that shakes when you are around is the ground.

Marquis09 Jun 2006 11:43 a.m. PST

Good grief! BME, I tried so hard to make space for you over at Frothers, but even with me doing my utmost to smooth things over for you, you still managed to royal screw it all up.

I actually went out on something of a limb, to the extent that, even now, one of the Mods has "The mouse stands alone" on his signature.

But you are a wastrel BME. A loud mouthed buffoon and, as someone else pointed out above, comparing yourself to Kev White or any other sculptor of talent is laughable.

I hope we do meet up someday at a convention, so that I can tell you what a gutless waste you are, directly to your face.

In regards to the subject of this thread….

I hope folks do take the time to read a little of what is written on Frothers. For all the roughness around the edges, there is a great deal of honest opinion expressed.

Cheers,

Marquis.

Cacique Caribe09 Jun 2006 11:52 a.m. PST

Guys,

Can we get back on track and return to picking on me for having jumped the gun here? :)

Marquis09 Jun 2006 12:02 p.m. PST

My apologies CC.

Come on over to Frothers and we can discuss it all like gentlemen :)

beepybuzzy09 Jun 2006 12:09 p.m. PST

I agree totally with Cacique. This is assinine.

Hmmm, and you would know this how?
Not that I need to justify my opinion to you, but yes, I had read the thread on Frothers.

I was responding to the quasi-militant stance taken by some here on TMP regarding those who would call themselves Frothers and their rush to defense.

Now, let's all get back to taking ourselves too seriously again, and be on topic. Ok sunshine?

Marquis09 Jun 2006 12:23 p.m. PST

"Not that I need to justify my opinion to you, but yes, I had read the thread on Frothers."

Really, then why would you write something so asinine as this then?

"Frothers can go sit and spin, so stifle the outrage guys.

Having read the Frothers thread (or indeed, any thread on Frothers) where exactly do you get the impression that they set themselves us as a governing body?

Most of the Frothers can barely govern their tongues, let alone the hobby. That is why they are all so adorable. :)

Perhaps you should try a little more comprehension, along a slightly thicker skin.

And as for Drew being a "pompous azz", well I am begining to see where you get your expertise on the subject from.

blueduck09 Jun 2006 12:37 p.m. PST

Even though I have no interest in IP, Predators, Drew Williamses or reporting, this has been the best thread ever. Good thing my office boght a case of microwave popcorn so I can goof off at work in style.

Space Monkey09 Jun 2006 1:41 p.m. PST

Since I have no intention of ever buying any of the rubber clicky monstrosities the disappearance of the metal ones (a nice option for a small group of GZGs Kra'Vak) is now lost to me…
and in general I don't like whiners and narcs…

So just another reason to dislike Pizkids…

nazrat09 Jun 2006 1:54 p.m. PST

And this is the closest thing to the Froth Pot I have ever seen on TMP! I love it!

OMG…I defended Frothers…I feel dirty. grin

Mike Monaco09 Jun 2006 5:06 p.m. PST

What exactly is so bad about reporting IP infringement? If the sculptor really was working on lisenced figures for WizKids, why shouldn't he report another company stealing what they paid for?

Dragon Forge09 Jun 2006 6:04 p.m. PST

Well to clear one thing up Drew Williams is not nor has ever been an employee of Wizkids. Hes maybe tried to do a little freelanceing with them, but hes not a employee or a representative of Wizkids. As to what he said or who he tattel tailed on is another story and probably mostly hear say.I know people love to take things as gospel because "They read it on the internet" but isnt there something a little more worth to discuss than this worn out topic?

westphalia09 Jun 2006 6:18 p.m. PST

I'd run this thread through a spelling editor, but I'm afraid it would blow up.

Good grief.

Scurvy09 Jun 2006 6:31 p.m. PST

marquis basicly took the words right out of my mouth crusader.

There you go danger mouse, for once you dont stand alone ;)

Big Miller Bro09 Jun 2006 7:30 p.m. PST

A lot of people would have done better to read the actual thread before making certain assumptions CC so you are not alone. You have said sorry and that is more than many would do Cacique- certainly says to me that you are worth your 'salt'. Everyone Bleeped texts up every now and then- few people admit it ;)

As someone who used to avoid Frothers I was actually very impressed with the discussion that was going on in that thread. No, not everyone will agree with what you say- and some may take a pot shot at you, but if you just keep it at the 'sticks and stones' level Frothers is another good community.

The whole Drew vs Copplstone's predators was only 15%-20% of the that thread- and was not the topic of the thread, which was meant to discuss the issue WITHOUT making it about any one person. It really did show that people seem to have some double standards with regards to the hobby and some people raised some very good points.

Big Mean Elf09 Jun 2006 8:26 p.m. PST

OK a basic question to try to understand the flow. What is a new AVP range from Wizkids?
