These Lance and Laser ones look amazing: link link However, I wonder if there are plans to make more poses, or if there are any other manufacturers making armed baboons out there? Links appreciated. CC |
Cacique Caribe | 13 Mar 2006 2:08 a.m. PST |
And the more primitive the weaponry the better. Thanks. CC |
hurcheon | 13 Mar 2006 2:17 a.m. PST |
There used to be spear carrying baboons for Runequest, but gods alone know where you'd fund any of those figures They also had armed ducks if that appeas to you |
Cacique Caribe | 13 Mar 2006 2:26 a.m. PST |
Thanks. Is he Number 6 in this picture, or were there others? link Here is one other baboon I found: picture CC |
hurcheon | 13 Mar 2006 3:48 a.m. PST |
There were others If you check here link Items 3 and 4. No pix I'm afraid. IIRC they weren't armoured in mail like the Baboon adventurer |
hurcheon | 13 Mar 2006 3:50 a.m. PST |
I'm not sure if you can buy the Wargods Baboon separate. I think you have to buy it with the Hero link Maybe if you contact Croc games they will sell you the Baboon as an item mind |
hurcheon | 13 Mar 2006 3:54 a.m. PST |
CC how desperate are you for baboons auction |
hurcheon | 13 Mar 2006 3:55 a.m. PST |
If nothing else the link shows you the miniatures I was telling you about |
bandit86 | 13 Mar 2006 3:59 a.m. PST |
Black Orc games has a Howler baboon in the simian 100 kingdoms range. Not armed but you can convert it. and if your just looking for armed apes they have a nice range of roman apes. |
Halfdan | 13 Mar 2006 4:16 a.m. PST |
Perhaps not what you are after but Monkeys never the less are the Mongoose Apes from Judge Dredd range |
Halfdan | 13 Mar 2006 4:35 a.m. PST |
heres a link, they are clothed but the weapons are basic link |
streetline | 13 Mar 2006 7:16 a.m. PST |
Mongoose has both the rights and appearently the intention to produce Runequest figures again. link So patience may be in order. |
streetline | 13 Mar 2006 7:19 a.m. PST |
And the Croc games baboon is available on his own – in the new releases section. |
Cacique Caribe | 13 Mar 2006 8:23 a.m. PST |
I think I found the Croc Games baboon listing (if the link works this time): link CC |

Try Chainmails War Ape, it is a nice figure, I think I have a few laying around actually. Never got around to painting them, because they keep falling over. You have to cut the slot and slide them to the far back of the base, or else they lean over too much. |
Black Cavalier | 13 Mar 2006 9:44 a.m. PST |
Raven's Forge made a number of armed primates in their Children of Fantasy line, but they're website hasn't been updated in 3 years, so I don't know if they're still actively selling. link |
Hexxenhammer | 13 Mar 2006 10:15 a.m. PST |
I'll second the Chainmail War Apes. They are giant babboons (meaning the size of a large 28mm mini) with their forearms covered by giant spiked gauntlets. You should still be able to find them around. Maybe try Noble Knight games. |
Farstar | 13 Mar 2006 11:51 a.m. PST |
Lance & Laser still make "Runequest" baboons, but as the main brand is now "HeroQuest", that's the section of their store you need to look in. Discount Hobby also carries the line, or did six months ago
|
Farstar | 13 Mar 2006 12:01 p.m. PST |
Doh! The four minis CC linked initially are the current RuneQuest/HeroQuest baboons. The really old, and much smaller, RQ baboon came in only the one pose that I recall. |
richarDISNEY | 13 Mar 2006 1:21 p.m. PST |

i am placing my beer on a box right now called "Throne of the Gorilla King" by Pazio.com. I fergot i gots this game! its under the 'Game Mastery', and "Compleat Encounter" games. it has 2 good 28mm monkeys in it, including one with a sword, and a really cool monkey idol too. i bought it fer my pulp RPG, and the adventure is very basic, but decent. try that out

I'm trying to propote the concept of armed babbons for years now, but nobody will listen. It's still only L&L, Black Orc and Chainmail. There's a french company that makes orcs that look a bit like baboons and Reaper does two Lasher demons, both with two baboon heads. And now the tiny guy from Croc. |
Area23 | 14 Mar 2006 7:55 a.m. PST |
Baboons, not babbons. Bobbins! |
Cacique Caribe | 30 Mar 2006 1:15 a.m. PST |

Cacique Caribe | 30 Mar 2006 1:42 a.m. PST |

Chupacabras | 30 Mar 2006 10:12 a.m. PST |
Thank you for the links. I was trying to order the Crocodile Games and Black Orc Games from the same place to avoid unnecessary postage on such small orders, but I guess I will probably do the same. |
Cacique Caribe | 31 Mar 2006 11:17 p.m. PST |
I particularly like the fact that all of the Baboons I ordered seem to be almost as tall as humans, which works great as genetically (and mentally) enhanced specimens on a secluded jungle laboratory, or as guardians of temples or cities in others. Now I cannot wait to get them and start painting them! CC |

"all of the Baboons I ordered seem to be almost as tall as humans, which works great as genetically (and mentally) enhanced specimens on a secluded jungle laboratory" CC, this sounds like the idea behind "Primal Force": TMP link |
Cacique Caribe | 03 Apr 2006 8:42 a.m. PST |
I may have gotten the idea from "Primal Force". CC |
Cacique Caribe | 03 Apr 2006 11:53 a.m. PST |
Just a quick update. The ones from Crocodile Games are not man-size, which means that I will use them as juveniles or as scouts. CC |

Got my Obelisk Baboons; they're simply awesome! IMHO the best baboons I've seen in a very long time! Hopefully Josef Ochmann will do more African wildlife, as these were IMHo perfectly rendered, AND lend themselves well for conversions IMHO

As soon as I get them painted, I am going to do a mercenaries vs genetically enhanced baboon jungle scenario, sort of like this: imdb.com/title/tt0194543 link CC |
