Not my genre, but I'm surprised one hadn't already long existed.

The nuns teaching me Latin inadvertently learned me to hate Rome.
So, I'll contribute to praise Carthage, Parthia and particularly violent Roman Civil Wars.

I purpose a Punic Wars board.

I expand your suggestion to a Republican Roman board!

The last time I was a WRG Ancients nerd, the army lists included
Belisarian Byzantine
Maurikian Byzantine
Nikephorean Byzantine
Thematic Byzantine
Tagmatic Byzantine
There were more, but I never encountered them on the tabletop.
(By the way, in a friendly tournament game, my Carthaginians trounced a Nikephorean army.)

But, I think that every single list in the WRG books deserves its own TMP Board. This sucking up to Romans has got to go!
Romanes ite domun!

I'm a bit partial to Carthage and Hannibal. :)

Then you would have enjoyed watching my Numidians (!) shooing Nikephorean cataphracts who were already disordered by my Airfix elephants down the path.
That was a general bummer for his whole left.

Curious as to why so many dislike the Romans?

They were no worse than many other empires of their times, or after for that matter.

Really no worse than those they fought in many cases. Sometimes actually better, than those they fought.

They could be brutal and merciless, but most of that time were.

They were successful, which has a tendency to breed contempt from some.

A lot of people do like the underdog.

I don't have a horse in the race, just curious.

I'm curious why so many LIKE the Romans.
Take 3 years of Latin, taught by the nuns, and then get back to me.
Every translation has to agree 100% with the approved text. Not just close, 100%. That meant memorizing the approved text, before you even start to translate.

Then, there's Livy. Not on our scholastic text. But he sounds like a fussy old lady. Can't stand the Penguin text.

As you implied, one takes sides. Mine is anti-Rome.

By the way, I call BS in the alleged "tactical superiority" of the Roman system.
Do you want to know how a Roman war usually went? They would invade and get their asses kicked. Horrible losses.
Then, come back for Round 2. More losses. But they're bleeding the enemy badly. Like themselves.
Round 3. The enemy have nobody left. Pax Romana.

A pox on the Romans.
For those who love Rome, read Suetonius.
