He says Waterloo (1970) is one of the worst war movies ever made? Is he mental? |

Clearly, he hasn't seen Napoleon by Sir Ridley. |

There are so many bad ones! Who shall choose? |

This would make a good multi day poll. |

Troy is mythology, and Gone with the Wind [I understand, not seen it] is a romance/adventure set in the ACW so not sure either should count. I fainted dead away at the comments on Waterloo. Yes it inevitably cuts corners and the focus is on Wellington v Napoleon-unless you want a ten hour film- and Im surprised it could be considered boring. Next time lets have that ravine Victor Hugo says the French cavalry fell down. |

"Waterloo" is one of my favourites….. |

No mention of The Thin Red Line? what a stinker!! |
Frederick | 10 Sep 2025 5:36 a.m. PST |
See what comes of straying outside of your wheelhouse Maybe international affairs specialists are not the most astute movie critics Gone with the Wind was about relationships, not the Civil War – it just happened to be set there And I agree – quite liked Waterloo 1970 I also agree that The Thin Red Line stank – along with some of the others cited! |

Perris0707 – Yes, Napoleon by Sir Ridley was a bizarre movie, an utter waste…I could only think of this meme as my friends and I watched that dumpster fire of a film.

I like John Wayne but The Green Berets and his version of the Alamo are really difficult to digest. |

His take on "Troy"
Obviously someone thought it would be a great idea to take a decade of epic conflict, compress the timeline to a few weeks, and tell it all in a mind-numbing 2 hours and 43 minutes of celluloid (Director's cut: 3 hours, 16 minutes). They were wrong. The Iliad only takes a few weeks. 🙄 "I sing of the wrath of Achilles…" That's what it's about. |

Forget "MacArthur". What about "Inchon", with Lord Larry Olivier? It raised the bar on "awful". The action scenes were great, but the acting? Some appalled critic asked why he would make such a terrible film, and he replied "For the money, Dear Boy. For the money!" The Reverend Moon certainly spared no Pennies! |

I liked Troy, the way it created the myths was fun. Waterloo at least has good battle scenes. |

Sorry – I was thinking of Revolution. Also not a great film |

Some of his comments show that he isn't that much of an expert in military history either – never mind being a useless film critic. |

Are Sword and Sandal muscle movies considered war movies? Lots of war scenes in them. |
John the OFM | 11 Sep 2025 6:28 a.m. PST |
As Hyman Roth explains, "It's the world we live in, Michael." Anybody can be a content creator. They can also fake their credentials. They don't have to be an expert on anything, really. Then, they give their article a clickbait title and it gets picked up and distributed by people who think they're doing a service. 🙄 Gone are the days of Siskel, Ebert, Maislin, etc who had actual jobs reviewing movies for actual major newspapers. Now, any ignorant slob can review movies and put them out. |

I forgot to list Braveheart, if that counts. Awful history. Wallace deserved a more honest and accurate film. Oh and definitely "300". More fantasy than history. |
SBminisguy | 12 Sep 2025 9:07 a.m. PST |
"300" is an over the top graphic novel brought to life, glorious fun and never attempts to be "actual" history. |

"The COMBAT special collection of 50 movies has many movies to by for this list. Got mine at Walmart." I found that set for a buck in my library's thrift store. One disc into it, and so far "This Is The Army" is the worst (WW2 musical drag show? What the…?) ;-) |
