I did not see any other mentions of this.

Shapeways is gone. The 3D printing services and marketplace provider has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy (dissolution of company, rather than Chapter 11 re-organization).

Here is an article: link

The web domain is no longer reachable.

A shame, really. I had purchased a few items in the marketplace. It was a useful resource.

Does anyone know of an alternative marketplace for 3D printed miniatures?

I would like to know what happened to their contributors, particularly "G Mil Models" aka "Giorgio's Models." I got some well done German, Russian, British and American tanks and other AFVs in 1/87 to round out and enhance my Russian Front forces.

Etsy has 3D printing vendors on it. I have purchased buildings & accessories there.

Right you are. So it was mentioned. Should have known it would be in the stack somewhere. But did not see the thread at the time, and was quite surprised when I discovered it.

I'm livid, I had just set up my Shapeways shop selling ACW ironclads and gunboats when they closed down. Thats $3 USD I'm never going to see :)

I think the biggest mistake they made was going public, and then the second mistake was that they didn't adapt their business model when high quality 3D printers became more affordable, leading to the cottage 3D printing industry and Etsy that really undercut their prices.

It didn't help that every other day they they changed materials ( or at least the names) and raised their prices and added "extra charges".

Like Mr. Manley above, I'm not sure how I will cope with the nearly $0.01 USD profit I made from my Shapeways designs.

What I am confused about is which 3D printing services, if any, support printing miniatures for StL files you purchased. I understand you can buy models from Etsy and EBay, and I understand you can buy StL files and print those same miniatures yourself if you own a 3D printer. But is there a convenient way to buy StL files and have someone else print them for you (when you want the minis but don't want the hassle of learning 3D printing)?

I miss having a large marketplace of 3D printable miniatures to shop from, but I don't miss Shapeways materials. The high detail plastics they used were too brittle for miniatures gaming.
