I came across a recent avert, so searched the Plastic Soldier Company website – for some of their 6mm selections listed as available (as POD- ordering) - link link

Wow, looks interesting! Thanks for the find. I have only recently completed the US Army infantry formations I had planned for, but … maybe I should have a battalion rather than just a company? IDK, but I'd sure like to encourage them to continue their 6mm efforts. Hoping some French or Italian stuff will follow. -Mark (aka: MK 1) |

Anyone know how these compare in size to other manufacturers' offerings? |

I just posted this about my order from them in the 1/144 and 10mm forums… "After 2 months got an E-mail today telling me that they cannot get 4 of the 6 vehicles to print properly. They wanted to know if I wanted anything to replace them. I declined and cancelled the order, hopefully there will be no problems getting a refund. Can't say that I recommend this company. VERY disappointed." |

TMP link (to Machinehead's comments and experience with PSC's POD service, and mine) At this time, I wouldn't recommend anyone seeing and reading this thread for these 6mm products, as reflecting actual proof of availability. Screenshots showing 3D views are NOT photos of actual, successfully-printed products. |

I have many of the STL files PSC is using as a source of these prints. In particular many of the Night Sky Miniatures vehicle files they are printing. The models were designed for printing at about 28mm scale and have an appropriate level of detail for that scale. Even at 28mm, they are not trivial to print. Shrinking these same models with their intricate details down to 6mm, in my opinion, is not likely to be successful for anyone. Either the print will lack the detail at that scale (thus false advertising using rendered images) or the parts will be so delicate and fragile as to be unusable on a gaming table. From the level of detail I see on the infantry, I assume the same is also true. I'm just speaking from my own unprofessional experience and if anyone has any images of these exact files successfully printed at 6mm, I'd love to see them. Resin printers can print 6mm files fine, but the files need to be designed for that scale. |

ThunderAZ correctly states: "Resin printers can print 6mm files fine, but the files need to be designed for that scale." As an experiment, I obtained an STL for a British infantryman. It was designed for 28mm and had my printer reduce it to 12mm/144th scale. If successful, I would have tried to negotiate for rights to add prints to my range. After my printer (a person- not talking about a machine) tried beefing up certain parts (like gunbarels- legs- equipment on the sculpt) it came out "too slight". That means that there would be a great tendancy to snap off at the ankles- broken guns, too thin belts, cartridge pouches (barely visable) in the process of dismounting. "I" certainly would not want to pay good money and receive broken figures before I even had a chance to do that myself! So we concluded that the STL files must be done by someone that has experience with such problems and can provide sample prints that reflect corrections from his / her experience/corrections. Those folks are hard to come-by. We at AIM contimue to look for someone we can afford that can create 1/144th scale "people" in 3D prints. Am personally hoping Victrix can get to DAK, Commonwealth, Italians and US for the Desert, soon! |

Its much easier to scale up than down in 3d printing. Weapons are usually the issue on miniatures. Gun barrels on vehicles. 28 to 22mm or up to 54mmm usually will work. You can play with the x, y and z axis to help somewhat. Thanks. John |
