What topics do you find that your wargaming experience (playing, researching, chatting, media interest, etc.) has helped put you in the top-tier (better than 6 of 10 people you meet) knowledge bracket?

I'll start off with …

Geography

… since I already said it. TMP link

My knowledge of horse coloration rivals that of any 14-year-old girl…

Geography, history, technology,languages, societal developments….

Warfare being a quintessentially human affair we can find rabbit holes everywhere to dive into.

Probably English language.
Some history.

Do patience, curiosity, befriending people, tolerance, creativity, and wit count as knowledge?

Operational wargaming: The use and utility of wargaming as an aid to operational planning in the British Armed Forces. Cheating a bit because that was the subject of my masters dissertation, but in fairness it was my hobby gaming that prompted me to delve into professional wargaming.

Besides, England's social tables 1688-1801 is just embarrassing (the first step to dealing with a rabbit-hole problem is to acknowledge that you have a rabbit-hole problem).

Strategy and tactics. And yes, geography.

Geography, strategy and tactics, current events, politics all from research on background.

Weird crafting and painting skills…

You know, I'm just flat not sure. While I was getting the hang of historical miniatures gaming, I was studying military history, and then pursuing a career in order of battle analysis. So I'm often unclear about where I picked up this or that fact, and my peers do not draw the line between "common knowledge" and trivia where normal people do.

Somewhere along the line, lots of geography, history, game theory and probability theory, though.

Excel: Using Excel to design things for High Guard and Striker took me to another level with the product, compared to my peers.

Horse colours and paint chemistry I guess?

Wargaming has undoubtedly improved my knowledge of history and geography, but I was already easily in the top 40% on those subjects before starting wargaming.

(Top 40% is a very wide definition of "top tier", BTW.)
