This was the very first ruleset ever released by TSR, the folks who later published Dungeons and Dragons. This miniatures rules set for the English Civil War seems to have slipped into obscurity and I can't find much information about it.

Anyone here play it and able to describe it? Was it any good? Any innovations there worth remembering?

Just ran 2 games of it at a Texas convention

Only complaint was that some expected individual unit activations…

My group here in DFW got into the Renaissance with WRG rules & we also tried this set. I liked it but the others preferred the more complicated WRG set. I ran 1 or 2 C&R games at cons since it went faster & could finish a game in the time allotted (which was rare with the WRG rules.

It's been a long time. I remember it as workable, but sometimes unnecessarily complicated. I recall distinctly having to multiply fire effect when firing on elite units because casualties were a factor of unit value, so otherwise elite losses would be less. That sort of thing is fixable, of course. But I expect it to be fixed before the set is for sale.

Clearly an unrealistic expectation on my part, and not just in this one instance.

Robert – no unit values, firing is actually very simple with a d6 and less than a handful of modifires such as halfing for open order or adding 1 for volley fire.

It is built for larger battles

Spurious-planning already for next millennium con for trying to adjust it for some of the Swedish/Polish battles ensuring it has the right period and nation feel as I define it by keeping set units etc

Looking forward to next year's MilliCon; I missed this year's due to heath problems.
