Does anyone have any information on Seven Years War units from Lower Saxony, in particular the bishopric of Hildesheim. I spent a few happy months in the town and it's tempting to raise a unit. |

Have you seen this book? Dr. Summerfield always does a pretty complete job in his pubs. link |

Not sure about the local recruiting area but I have always been partial to the Rochow Fusiliers link |

Mark, apparently there was a Reichs battalion raised in Hildesheim, but there's no details I've been able to find (not that I've looked too closely, though). Kronoskaf doesn't cover the Lower Saxon Circle, which indicates that information is hard to find. I've had a bit of luck contacting local museums about history, so you may want to drop the Stadtmuseum Hildersheim ( stadtmuseum-hildesheim.de ) an email. Even the photo of an old portrait of an officer of the unit would give you a start point. Tom and Frederick, I'm fairly sure Mark's looking for units from the Reichsarmee Lower Saxon Circle, not Kingdom of Saxony units. |

According to Christian Rogge "Hildesheim was the property of the prince-bishop of Cologne" - on this thread : TMP link I checked a couple of Pengel & Hurt booklets on the Reichsarmee and various German states but couldn't find any mention of them. Possibly in the Cologne Army in some form ? |

There was a Hildesheim battalion, but whether it was a real one or just a paper one, to draw an Imperial subsidy, is another question (Bishoprics were good at that). Positioned as the Lower Saxon Circle was, with Prussia and Hanover close, they may have decided to sit things out. |
