The encouraging thing is that this posting got through and did not automatically disappear to the Link Directory thing. So maybe the banishment is not for you personally, but for the type and content of the posting. If it just provides a link….well it goes (again maybe disappears?) into the Links Directory then. If there is some added content, as here, it appears on the appropriate Topic Board. So, maybe, do far fewer postings (why try to maintain your current workload, if it is just lost in space?). Then use the extra time to add some personal content to the site that is linked, with some personal comment, a review, a critique? That would address many of the criticisms voiced here. Everyone wins. |

Armand, you may have missed it but I voiced my support as well. Still hope to see you in person down in Buenos Aires or host you up here in Los Angeles before you and/or I go to the great gaming room in the sky! From time to time I may have problems with some of your posts, but I still thank you for the tremendous amount of interesting and useful material you've shared or pointed me towards over these many years. Speaking only for myself, when you've copy and pasted posts from my blog here on TMP -- which in keeping with my Standard Operating Procedure I had already posted here myself -- I've always taken it as a happy compliment. |
John the OFM | 01 Mar 2021 3:18 p.m. PST |
I can tell you from past experience, Tango01, that turning this into a "me vs Bill the Editor" crusade will not end well. It never did for me. My notorious "You are dead to me" thread didn't end up well for me. What made you think that assembling a list of your supporters was a good idea? Why do you have such a problem abiding by new rules and guidelines? I'm behind Bill and his staff 100% on this. It's trite to say "Bill's house, Bill's rules" with a sneer. But this is his baby. This is his bread and butter. This is his source of income. Why you think that doesn't apply to you is puzzling. Yours not to reason why. Yours to obey and follow the rules. This will probably shock people to see John the OFM fully in support of Bill, knowing our pasts. But when he's right, he's right. Hi Frothers! So, man up. Do things his way, and follow the rules, particularly the ones that keep revenue in Bill's pocket. Stop promoting Kickstarters that don't advertise here. Stop linking to malware sites, and sites that sell pirated PDFs of copyright material still in print. Hasn't being DHed for that taught you anything? Bill WILL crack down if you push him. You're no more special than I thought I was. I won't even bring up my biggest complaints, since that ship has sailed. I'm not dying on that hill. |

John… John…I can't less to admire your enthusiasm … even for the bad … and of course smile when you see that your reasoning always ends up being about yourself … there shouldn't be a place big enough to keep your ego (smile) There is not a "me vs Bill the Editor"…I never confronted Bill like you have in the past … what's more … I don't remember ever having participated in so many threads that questioned his actions or directives … it's not my thing … I was never interested to confront in TMP … I did not wave flags or banners against Bill … nor am I going to do it … the times we have had different points of view … we did it via PM … "What made you think that assembling a list of your supporters was a good idea?" I don't know if it was a good idea … I did what my heart dictated and it was to thank so many who supported my participation in tmp… it really moved me … I remind you that I did not start the thread "Tango's contribution" Topic …. The only thing I did was to thank those who had the initiative … about which I have no words for them … "Why do you have such a problem abiding by new rules and guidelines?" I never had … the problem (already explained to Bill and accepted by himself) … is that the effort or task involved in posting something in tmp so that then it disappears instantly into the air and goes to an area where the characteristics to be read, commented or appreciated is another completely different … in my opinion … is not worth it. On the other hand … I did not say that I would leave TMP … only what I explained before … we will see if I can continue to contribute in another way … or if not … I will do like the vast majority, which is to read what others fellow members post…. Don't forget that Bill awarded me a full year of membership … I see no punishment then for confronting him … "Stop promoting Kickstarters that don't advertise her" I did it instantly that Bill decided not to accept them anymore … what I did was post finished Kickstarters where the business no longer exists and people can appreciate miniatures that are no longer for sale…that's not against the rules either… "Stop linking to malware sites, and sites that sell pirated PDFs of copyright material still in print" I tried…but in my defense I can say that I was Dawhoused for copyrighted books 8 times … in so many thousands of threads and years posting here it is not an alarming amount … I remind you that English is not my main language … not even the second one … so let's be a little lenient and consider that it could have been errors of appreciation and not pure evil … I do not remember having posted malware sites … if one was leaked … I apologize for it… no dawhouse history to me about that. "Bill WILL crack down if you push him. You're no more special than I thought I was…" I have no doubts … but I am not you … I never considered myself special as you do consider yourself … so your advice does not correspond to me. "This will probably shock people to see John the OFM fully in support of Bill, knowing our pasts. But when he's right, he's right. Hi Frothers…" This was the best … by far … the most comical and funny … I appreciate it … who or how many do you think are attentive to what you say or support? … that was perhaps in the past far away … and Frothers.? … that place where five people stir on their own m…? Just for that big laugh … thanks John! Armand |

"This is his bread and butter. This is his source of income." It's always about the economics. If changes to the number of posts/visits adversely impact the economics then there will be a change. If there is no impact, then no change will be needed. I'm sure Bill keeps up with what impacts his bottom line and responds appropriately (after all he's been doing this for a while). So I guess we'll see what happens. |

Thank you, Tango, for including me on your List of Honor. So many of your posts led me to sources I did not know of, and no longer being able to open your posts when their titles intrigue me is going to remain a whole in my days. I'm also sorry that it appears to be necessary to the Powers That Be that posts specifically referring to the situation have been removed, or at least exiled to some obscure part of the Empire. I also agree that the situation might yet change to the benefit of all. And--by all means!--do consider starting your own Blog or other site where you can post at will and continue to direct the interested to the interesting. Au Revoir! TVAG |

Thank you, Armand. I do not understand the whole situation, to be honest. I would have been honored if Armand had ever posted a link to my humble blog. LOL! The old adage, "There is no such thing as bad press," is something I firmly believe. I simply do not understand people complaining about Armand posting links to their blog sites. It boggles my mind. I never assumed Armand was the author -- it was clear when I visited the links, that Armand was simply posting someone else's work, sharing it. Another foolish tempest in a teacup. Armand, if you create your own site, please let me know, if possible. I enjoyed more of your posts, than I can quantify. I considered you to be an ambassador of the hobby, bringing so many sites to my attention, which I would otherwise never have known existed. I will miss you, and your posts. Cheers, and well met, my Friend! |

Thanks for including me in your list, Armand. I remain somewhat puzzled by just what the Links Directory is supposed to accomplish and as to whether or not I understand how to use it. I do have one curiosity question for you. And this may have been asked and answered at sometime. Do you ever play miniature or board wargames? |
Tango01 | 01 Mar 2021 9:47 p.m. PST |
Yes I do… I wargame once a year a BIG battle involving thousands of 1/72 Napoleonic miniatures… I also wrote a "book" about them with pictures… it's a fantasy history in 1818 were Napoleon still remain in power and most of the European Powers come to Africa to fight for their resources…it's involved two large Armies (large for Africa … not for Europe) … led in one hand under the name of "Associates" by France, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Switzerland and some small German states such as Bavaria or Hesse and by the other hand the "Allies" led by England, Austria, Prussia the Ottomans, Portugal, Sweden and also some small German states like Brunswick, Hannover etc. Currently, each Army has about 35,000 men (not all of them are present in each battle), I made an imaginary map devised by myself …. each battle lasts a whole month in a room (my study) with several tables with a total amount of about 6m x4mts … The rest of the year I buy, paint and build units. My units are made up of Infantry: Companies (about 200 men) Battalions (4 or 5 companies) Regiments: (3 to 5 Battalions) and Divisions (4 to 6 Regiments) Cavalry: Squadrons (about 80 to 150 horsemen – it depends a lot on the national origin of each one of them) Companies ( 4 to 6 Squads). There are no Cavalry Divisions, they are integrated into a Division that has Infantry + Cavalry + Artillery. Regarding the Artillery: Batteries: 4 to 6 guns (depending on their caliber) Companies: 4 to 6 batteries. There are no Artillery Battalions, they are incorporated into each Division… I also like to play with characters (to illustrate a bit the story I write)For example, The Allied Commander-in-Chief is Ltn General Albert Lucius Powell (a Scotsman with certain characteristics of Wellington in his strategy), the Associate Commander-in-Chief is Ltn General Andrée Anton Duval (a Gascon with Ney manners, but more smart). In each unit there is a name for the Chief and the 2nd chief … from the smallest to the largest. It is fun to search for names for so many nationalities … Oops! … too much information about something silly that only interests me … but you have made me excited … The photos of my battles and units were published for years by my good friend Rafa and several came to TMP by the hand of our fellow member Arteis … but that was a long time ago … Amicalement Armand |

Love that film still. M4A3E4, with Yugoslavian front mudguards, that do look so weird. Large hatch, late commander's cupola, loader's hatch. Gun, never too sure as Oddball did add a length of pie. Six months ago I did not know a Sherman from a Grant (well not quite that bad) so I am getting there. Never did check the tracks |

👍👌👍 Probably one of my top 5 favorite movies ! I loved they use T-34s as a base to make Tiger 1. Yes the tracks, road wheels, etc., are not like a Tiger's of course. But close enough for me. No more M47s or M48s with an Iron Cross painted on the turret ! |
