Anyone know of good sources for Orders of Battle in the Mexican Revolution?

Did a search on the forum and didn't find any. I'm most interested in Federals, Maderista and Magonistas forces in the early war. Any help appreciated!

What size battles?

Thanks.

John

I have 1/72 minis, but I'll end up running both tiny raids using 1:1 ratio to large battles later in the war, so really whatever you've got! thanks!

I picked up a scenario book from Wiley Games called 'Viva Revolution'. The scenarios are historical. They provide a historical overview of the scenario. They ARE scaled down to use with Fistful of Lead from Wiley games. So they easily work at a 1-1 scale. Or, you could say each unit is a larger unit and just scale it up. I use my 25mm Old Glory figs. I have run Old West games for decades and easing into the Mexican Revolution was an easy transition. Osprey has a book on the Revolution and I believe a book on Villa at Columbus. Peter Pig has been releasing a 15mm range. Martin from there will likely have some scenarios too. He is releasing a rule set.

Thanks.

John

A few years ago I bought through Patrick Wilson, The Virtual Armchair General, a set of two books by historian Mr James R. Hinds: "Battles of the Mexican Revolution" and "Documents of the Mexican Revolution". They are chockful of – for me mostly (I cannot read Spanish) – useful information, including descriptions of fights and orbats.

Yeah, I heard those are great books. They aren't available though, I believe. I was late to that party.

Thanks

thanks everyone! I downloaded Wiley Games 'Viva Revolution,' for $6. USD it's pretty good. There are a lot of scenarios for Villa's Division of the North, which i look forward to trying. It even has one of the early Magonista battles--Tijuana-- I plan to write my own scenario for. Unfortunately, Wiley Games falsely calls these rebels Maderistas. It's an understandable oversight. Also, there's not much in terms of how the divisions of the armed forces, they just tell you how many figures to put on the table, not what/who/how many those figures specifically represent.

The Hinds books sound interesting. as of 2013 looks like you can order them from the author himself for 45$ shipping included, see the end of this thread: TMP link

John, did you try this and Hinds ran out?

thanks all

In Northern Va. we game the Mex.Rev. in 54mm using
the Bolt Action rule system. I feel anytime you are
gaming in 1 to 1 -- give your Toy Soldier figs a try.
Painted Cowboys are on Ebay all the time for very little
cash.

I have googled Mr Hinds and found that he died five years ago.

Incidentally a nice obituary – Mr Hinds clearly was an interesting person !

TVAG was doing a subscription and purchase type deal. I didn't see it until too late.

Thanks.
