So, since we're asking that:

TMP link

Why not ask if you are gracious in victory?

Five levels:

I am completely stoic in victory.
I acknowledge winning isn't all about my own brilliance.
I express a reasonable amount of satisfaction at success.
I enjoy enjoying myself when I win.

I like to think I'm a two, but it's hard to judge yourself in such things.

Can't answer from the list as I lack a sufficient track record of winning. On those rare occasions, my typical response would invariably be shock and surprise, followed by effusive praise for the luck of my dice.

I fear that I may be – inadvertently – a bad winner: I win so rarely that when it happens I get quite overcome with excitement at the novelty.

I can also (apparently) be an annoyingly good loser. There are several co-operative games that in order to achieve repeat playability are heavily stacked against the player, so part of the pleasure (for me) is seeing just how badly we'd been beaten.

In an RPG if a critical hit table is ever involved I'd much rather have my head cut off in a single blow from a kobold than my thumb. There's nothing funny about losing a thumb, but having your head cut off by a kobold – that's funny.

I am weirdly a guilty winner. Especially if it is due to luck. I feel awful when those crazy die rolls happen to my opponent or I draw the best card at the best moment to win the game.

If I win due to my sheer brilliance (when that rarely happens), I still feel bad for my opponent.

I game solo exclusively, and I admit I am a complete A-hole to the other side, win or lose.

Well when I win sometime … I'll let you know ! 🎲

I'm pretty sure most people can't objectively evaluate this aspect of themselves.

dapeters05 Nov 2020 10:19 a.m. PST

I rather lose and have a great time in the process. But….

Corporal Fagen05 Nov 2020 10:20 a.m. PST

Depends on the opponent

The Cthulu Triad (ES, AH, MoM) or Pandemic? :)

Unless I hear the lamentations of the women I don't consider it a victory.

Where does a victory lap around the table, arms in the air, chanting "Booyah! In yer face! Victory is mine!", high-fiving any spectators or myself, and then doing sweeping bows to the applauding crowd fall on the scale?

What Brian said.

I play a lot of "Twilight Struggle" online. The game is very tense; I'm usually yelling and cursing at my computer and feel like I'm losing the entire time. When I win, I just feel relieved. Strange, I seem addicted to the game.

Only when I win

John the OFM05 Nov 2020 2:04 p.m. PST

Winning? What's that?

The Cthulu Triad (ES, AH, MoM) or Pandemic? :)

We are superbly good at Pandemic – to the extent that we use the alternative win criteria of not just all cures found BUT all disease "cubes" also removed from the board.

Oh – that's normal behaviour evil grin

I suppose so but I am a bit out of practice!

Augustus05 Nov 2020 5:27 p.m. PST

I don't lose very often so have a lot of practice being a gracious winner. So far no one I have played against thinks any different. ;)

von Schwartz05 Nov 2020 5:52 p.m. PST

Gotta go with Legion, John the OFM, Chris Brantely and others.

I'll let ya know when I win!

I get run over so often I have boot marks, or tread marks depending on the period, on top of my head

Bleeped text happens …

Sundance09 Nov 2020 11:10 a.m. PST

I've gotten my butt kicked good a few times, but I honestly prefer to lose a close game than to win a landslide. The landslide is no challenge.

Covert Walrus12 Nov 2020 9:12 p.m. PST

If I won more often, I suppose I coudl recall whther I was gracious or not.
