Some players can enjoy a game win or lose and some players can't – you know the type, moan that they were cheated out of certain victory, maybe spend the last half of the game searching for rule loopholes they think they can use to their own advantage.

So, be honest, which are you?

a) I enjoy the game, I try to win but I don't whine when I lose.

b) The only point in playing is to win, and if I lose I sulk like a petulant child.

c) not my cup of tea

d) This is ridiculous.

I'm not a gracious loser; I'm a magnanimous winner.

As I've said before in these boards, everyone who plays wins: You just spent half a day with your friends doing the most fun thing you can do standing up.

That's what I'm about when I'm gaming.

With COVID my games are all solo. I'm a good loser, but my opponent is a real a-hole.

A yes..I just want to see my painted figures on the table.

Nick Bowler04 Nov 2020 8:23 p.m. PST

e) I enjoy the game. I enjoy being with my friends and talking @#$% and pushing lead. Getting to the end if the game is irrelevent.

A… until we get down to the after game trash talk with beer when I will complain bitterly that I was robbed by bad luck/dice.

I believe I was always gracious in defeat, just enjoying the game, the models and the scenery.

However, there was one time where after deployment my opponent allowed his son to redeploy on my flank. He swept me from the field and although I said nothing I am ashamed to say I was very glum about it.

Oh well, nobody's perfect but I do wish I had handled it better.

Fred Mills05 Nov 2020 6:50 a.m. PST

Wouldn't know. Never lost. :-)

If you can't enjoy an evening of playing with toy soldiers then it's time to take up golf.

A – I am a very gracious loser thru lots of practice

A. I love a bloody game. The more carnage, the better! I try to win, but to me, it is about a raging battle: as long as there are many casualties in the scrum, I don't care who wins, as long as we had a really good fight! Cheers!

B) Not really, but why not vote that way? Nobody who behaves in this manner is going to be honest and admit it. In fact, I would offer that most people who engage in petulance see it as petulant. Their perception is probably that they are reasonably expressing their concern for an injustice.

Patrick Sexton Supporting Member of TMP05 Nov 2020 9:02 a.m. PST

B. I am a whiny git.

I believe that I'm an A (evil grin)

Among my fondest memories of gaming are times such as almost passing out from laughing as my elite troops are battered by a bunch of peasants with cauliflowers (or something similar!).

brass105 Nov 2020 9:23 a.m. PST

I can only think of one B-type person I have gamed with and he made no secret of it. He was such a pain in the arse that, when he accused both the owner of our FLGS and me of cheating because he came in second in a tournament, he discovered that he didn't have to worry about losing because he couldn't get a game anywhere in our area.

A severe case, of course, but there are people on this planet who act like that.frown

I'm pretty sure most people can't objectively evaluate this aspect of themselves.

Inside, possibly B, outside hopefully A!!!

abelp0105 Nov 2020 2:12 p.m. PST

Definitely A

I don't lose.

If it looks like a contest is not going my way I send in (rules) lawyers.
