Does anyone have recommendations for miniatures to use for this? I have a rule set and paint schemes picked out, just need good miniatures. I was looking for House Troops. The Freman(colonial Arabs) and Saradukar(Samurai) are easy. I always pictured house troops as semi-Napoleonic. More sword and dagger over anything else. |

Dialling down from the 'full Napoleonic' Crimean or Indian Mutiny ranges may be quite good – similar uniform vibe but toned down somewhat. Taking the Atreides uniform in Lynch's film as a bit of que I've always thought first quarter 20Cth – thought frankly late 19thC would probably fit as well – British colonials in khaki. Though on that score I'd use some like these guys for Saradukar: TMP link |

I pictured them in sort of French Legion, while the Harkonnen more like US Civil War with the Kepi. The issue is the swords and knives being the big weapon not guns. |

This is a line in 15mm that has some of the style of the Lynch film: Spice Range link

Often browsed the Spice range but the pictures aren't great and for some reason I get the impression they are quite big for 15mm? Khurasan also has some figures that fit with the style of the Lynch film. In terms of the original brief Essex does pretty everything in 15mm you need so you should get some consistency of style and figure size. |

I think this is going to be a mission impossible sort of thing. My new plan is to use late medieval/renaissance figures. For the Hawks late English(Billmen, swordsmen, muskets), Gryphons will be Italians/Swiss(pikemen, swordsmen, muskets, plus a rocket launcher still want the theme), Saradukar will be Samurai just fits in my mind. May make up two-three more houses to balance it out. Though the Armies will function more like post-Roman Britain. Mainly melee infantry with limited range combat/mounted. Opinions? |

Actually not a bad idea IMO. I've tinkered with ideas for a neo-Elizabethan sci-fi RPG. If you look through a lot of artwork for 40k particularly civilians you'll come across images that have been definitely been inspired by 16-17thC dress – the background borrows pretty liberally from late Medieval and Renaissance themes. As it happens I've also just sci-fi'ed a couple of Japanese Ashigaru firelocks for project I'm working on. TMP link At 15mm firearms are fairly indistinct- its wheellock its a maula pistol! I don't know if you intend to add some sci-fi notes to the figures, but the odd judicious head swap, addition of more modern looking packs and pouches, etc would probably work well. And for Bene Gesserit someone must do 15mm nuns! |

I was just going to give them different paint jobs the fire locks I was thinking to add like florescent paint to them. I have a rather bright green and I figured crossbow rail guns ala Chewbacca. |

I love all these ideas! You are talking more like the Moebius designs for the Dune that Alejandro Jodorowsky was going to make: link

The current image seems to near I realized these are different planets that would have truly different cultures and ideals. Plus it's not uncommon for nobles to be nothing like their common folk. Normans in England, Spanish in the Americas, and British in India |
