I was wondering about current ww2 rules. A long time ago there were rules called spearhead. Is there a modern set similar to them? Or are they still in print? What are the rules people are using? |

Blitzkrieg Commander, 4th Ed….(BKCIV). Easy to learn and play. Command system is key to the game. One vehicle=five; approximately a platoon, with some adjustments to units with three tank platoons. Great game…my go-to game especially if you liked Spearhead, which we did, but not as complicated. |

Fist full of Tows, the basic game is not difficult to learn, you can add advanced functions as you get comfortable. |

I use Spearhead and Blitzkrieg Commander – though I haven't updated to most recent division yet (just a timing issue) |

Tigers and Stalins are still around. Tank action in WW II. Each model is one vehicle. Combat is streamlined, but gun size and armor angles are factored in. We're actually playing it this weekend at a Gaming event at Ft. Meigs in Perrysburg. A couple of people here an TMP speak kindly of them. Full disclosure, I wrote the rules and have copies for sale. $6 USD including shipping for a copy in the US, multiple copies and Overseas shipping prorated…. |

I still use Spearhead – great rules |

Battlefront:WW2 for up to a battalion a side. Spearhead for up to a brigade. Rommel for larger games. |
Dynaman8789 | 28 Oct 2019 1:01 p.m. PST |
Modern Spearhead. Last publisher I heard of (a few years back) was at On Military Matters, just searched and found it is still listed. |
Dynaman8789 | 28 Oct 2019 1:03 p.m. PST |
Spearhead is listed too. I misread your posting thinking it was modern rules like spearhead you were after. My personnel favorite is Fistful of Tows 3. Despite the name it covers ww2 to modern day and does an excellent job. |

A 2nd for Battlefront, I play it with 6 mm all the time but use the 15mm scale 1"= 40yards/metres. |

FFT while a brilliant set, is miserable for infantry. It is really a Armor set. Infantry is essentially a terrain obstacle. Panzer Grenadier by David Brown is very good. |

Thank you all for your responses! I've started looking for reviews the sets. |

My club used Spearhead but changed to Blizkrieg Commander and Battlefront. |

I'm still in the WRG 1925-1950 fan club and don't see that changing. |

> FFT while a brilliant set, is miserable for infantry. It is really a Armor set. Infantry is essentially a terrain obstacle. Not in close terrain. The rules are not an infantry focused set though, mostly due to the ground and time scale not allowing them to manuever much. I would go with Command Decision for Infantry centric games. |

I have first edition Blitzkrieg Commander. I didn't know there was already a fourth edition. |

Second to Command Decision, but v.3, not Test of Battle (v.4). v.3 not v.4; gee, where have I heard that before? |

I've been gaming off-and-on for ~45 years now, always focused on 6mm miniatures. I've used perhaps 8 different rule sets over that period of time. More, if you include differing versions and upgrades. My preferred unit scale is 1-to-1 for vehicles (on model = one vehicle), and 1-to-squad for infantry. I seek rules that provide good gameplay for both armor and infantry action, and most importantly that are not all out-of-balance for combined arms action. I also seek rules that are fast-play enough to allow each gamer to manage 20+ pieces, so that each gamer can field a company + sized force, and also so that I can assemble multiple gamers for battalion-sized battles. My #1 choice for the past dozen years or so has been ODGW's Mein Panzer rules (in their current v2). I particularly like how well these rules handle combined arms, and how they keep all players involved as the game scale expands beyond 2 gamers. My #2 choice is JagdPanzer rules (in their current v2). Fast play and simple -- not unlike WRG's Armor and Infantry. Your tankage may vary. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |

I always thought Battlegroup would work well in 6mm |
agrippavips | 31 Oct 2019 11:35 a.m. PST |
Battlegroup seconded. Easy to scale from 6mm to 28mm. Had a great 6mm 8xplayer game of Battlegroup: Tobruk. Each player commanded 1 Co Tanks and 1 Co motorised infantry. |

yeah yeah, I still plan on using the Battlegroup Cold War unofficial mods to run it in 6mm at some point (once I buy and paint an opfor for my US Marine heliborne company). Could the new official 10mm rules be scaled to 6mm..? |
crazycaptain | 01 Jan 2020 9:11 p.m. PST |
Isn't Battlegroup really slow with that many models? |
pfmodel | 08 May 2020 5:32 p.m. PST |
I created a set of videos cover all the rules which i have studies, most, if not all, can be played with 6mm. The link to youtu.be/9NuklWm1Sr8 Part 1: Squad scale Rules is here. There are four more parts, covering increasing scales. But for 6mm, Spearhead tends to be the most popular. I normally use Corp/Korps Commander and increasingly LWRS. The latter because i can have a decent game on a 3x2 foot playing area and i am testing a 2x2 foot playing area as well. |

I just bought this ruleset from Dave last week. I was able to play this weekend. Very fun game with intuitive rules.

I enjoy Mein Panzer. This is scaled at 1 vehicle = 1 vehicle and squad/team size for the infantry. I did a tutorial on the ODGW website in the Forum section last year. This was a simple tank battle to show prospective players how the game works. I think they are a great set of rules. I also play Fistful of TOWs 3 which is great for larger battles. |

Blitzkrieg Commander IV, Battlegroup and, playing in 6mm the 15mm & 28mm wargames rules Flames of War and Bolt Action. I have Battlefront WWII rules and I want to try them soon. |
