A shocking documentary is shedding new light on just how far the Nazis and Allied soldiers went in an attempt to win World War II — including the use of performance-enhancing drugs…

That's how we got Captain America right?

Apparently by 1942 the Germans realized that there might be a downside to stimulant use and thought about reducing issue of stimulants

The Allies used them as well,especially the RAF and the Army Air Corps -I think about 72 million doses were issued in 1942, especially for those long-haul heavy bomber operations

They were giving fighter pilots and infantry something which can cause violent behavior??!

Oh. And everyone is allowed to denounce "performance-enhancing drugs" who doesn't demand coffee before starting work, and who never cranked out term papers overnight with a large stack of NoDoz.

Given the scale of WWII's death and destruction, this isn't even a blip.

mildbill26 Jun 2019 5:47 a.m. PST

There is a big difference between coffee and No Doz and bennies . However, Roberts' point is correct none the less.
My guess is that we will soon hear about certain units being given performance enhancing drugs without the 'nasty' side effects.
I have known about this for years but it is in the media now for a reason. :}

Saw that too last night on PBS. Very enlightening …

Not really a surprise.

Soldiers and housewives have/had access to them, as well as many other people, since WWII.

IIRC the AHC has run specials on Hitler's High Soldiers for the past couple of years. So this is not any new news.

Monty's Eighth Army used them in the desert.

Seeing as all armies dished out free recreational drugs like tobacco and alcohol to all soldiers I guess it shouldn't be a big surprise they gave performance enhancing drugs to select combat units for select jobs. The drug culture was different back in those days, women were sold speed as a weight loss pill and there wasn't the moral panic then that we associate with ‘drugs' in today's culture.
