The tricorne started to be adopted in the late 1690s and became more or less universal by 1706-07. |

Soldiers were turning their hats up in various manners from the last decade of the 17th century; the tricorne was one of these styles – but it was a loose, informal tricorne, and the familiar rigid, formal tricorne of the 18th century only gradually emerged. |

According to Grant's book, "From Pike to Shot" he states that by the time of the Nine Years War the Bavarian army was already wearing tricorn hats. I have not read that about any other countries/armies prior to say 1700. Terry |

By decree from the War God Ares, all floppy hats magically transformed into tricornes at 00:01 on January first 1700.
It was so we easily could keep track of when the 18th-century warfare started. |
