I want to paint some ACW figures, not sure if I want to game. So in the opinion of the vast knowledge of gamers and painters on this site, what would be the best figures to paint, in 25mm? thank You for your opinion JMK |

The Perry miniatures are beautiful. |

Perry figures are indeed nice but I prefer Sash and Saber. For me, they have more variety, action and character. However, you can't go very far wrong with either one. |

I like Dixon miniatures, full of character and unique poses |

You will get many different answers. I am partial to the Foundry ACW line. |

Foundry ACW are great and I also like the Perrys Dixons have largish heads but you can't beat them for, as noted, character Never did Sash and Sabre – Crusader miniatures are good but in my view not quite up to Foundry or Perry |

Sash and Saber has some of the more interesting units in their range. |

Sooner or later the temptation is going to be to mix figures from different manufacturers. One of the first things you'll want to do is to research compatibility between the lines. Not all figs are created equal, especially as to height. Redoubt figs are good, if somewhat basic, but their interchangeable heads offer significant variations. But, Redoubt figs are substantially larger than most other lines. Dixon's tend shorter, but stockier. There are tons of threads in here on figure compatibility. You should be able to find everything you need with forum searches. Enjoy. |

Sash & Saber was the first company to sculpt miniatures in authentic drill poses, using "Hardee's Tactics" as a guide. Advancing troops are at Right Shoulder Shift as they should be. These are probably the most historically accurate miniatures available. Perry Miniatures are good, and the Perry Twins sculpted the Foundry ACW Line. Lots of variety with Dixon if you can live with the heads. Good luck. |

I've a couple thousand ACW 25's. The majority (BIG majority) are Sash and Saber. |

If money is an issue check out the Old Glory 2nd editions the look very similar to sash and saber but with their 40% off army card they are dirt cheap |

I agree, OG 2nd are an excellent way to build an army. |

Wasn't the same sculptor responsible for the Sash & Saber and Old Glory 2nd edition ACWs? To answer my own question, the answer is yes-confirmed by Russ Dunaway of Old Glory here: TMP link So the two companies' figures should be a good size and style match. Also, you can order both, in the US anyway, from Old Glory, albeit you won't get the Old Glory Army discount on the Sash & Saber figures. |

Perry (whether Perry or Foundry) are beautiful sculpts and paint up well. Sash and Saber to my eye are not as precise, but they paint up well and have some really cool poses. Really, I don't think you'll go wrong with either. |

I'm going to muddy the waters, because I use several vendors. I must not have a discerning eye because they all look pretty good to me on the tabletop. |
