Judging from not very good photos on Old Glory website S&S and OG 25mm Napoleonics kind of look similar. I may be wrong about it.

So, the question is – what is the difference between those manufacturers and which do you think are better? It's a completely new period for me and your experience with both manufacturers would be useful to me. Thanks.

Depends on which Old Glory napoleonics you are talking about.

the 1st ed stuff tends to be a bit bigger and chunkier then sash & saber. sculpting is generally not quite as nice. the Old Glory Austrians are the closest to sash & saber. Sash & Saber tend to have slightly smaller head then OG 1st ed as well.

Old Glory 2nd Edition are a lot less chunky then OG 1st edition and, at least with the Russians, are slightly less chunky then the Sash & saber Austrians. height and head size are dead on though. I think they would mix fairly well together.

Fore the record, I am comparing Sash & saber Austrian artillerists and infantry in helmets to Old Glory 2nd edition Russian infantry & Old glory 1st edition Austrian grenadiers, jagers, and Russian artillerists.

OG 2nd ed are about 40% cheaper then S&S if you have an Old Glory Army card. however, at the moment, S&S has a better selection, at least in their french and Austrians( not including OG 1st edition). IF i had to choose between hte 3 options i've presented, I'd go with OG 2nd edition for the bulk of the infantry, and use sash & saber to fill in what Old glory hasn't released yet. I'd stay away from the Old Glory 1st edition cavalry. in my experience they tend to be the worst sculpts in the Old Glory line up.

Hope that helps.

I have the S&S Napoleonic French Foot Artillery crew & 12pdr cannon link , but I don't have any OG Napoleonics. That said they appear very close in style & size to other OG figures I have. They look pretty nice overall and you can't beat the price.

BTW, I wouldn't have thought OG 1st ed. Napoleonics would actually be bigger than the 2nd ed. I may have to try out some 1st ed. French w/gaiters to see if they compare (at least in height) w/Victrix. Or are the 2nd ed. as tall, but not as "chunky"?

From what I know-many OG were done quickly by the Sash and Saber sculptor. He left OG and started S&S but took more time and care in producing the sculpts. I have ptd, not the Nappy's, but the ACW and the SYW and I liked the fullness and raised features of Sash better than OG. Also, the Sash poses and facial expressions are more conservative and composed.

Just for the record. Chris Hughs, who does both S/S and OG did not "leave Old Glory" and is still on the OG payroll.

I have Old Glory 1e Nap figs in my mix of stuff. They match up fine with Perry, Victrix, Foundry (later) and the usual suspects. I just won some S&S French Nap figs off ebay and was surprised how much smaller they were. S&S's site lists them as 25mm (to the eyes), so they're true to their word.

Now I'm deciding whether to sell the S&S or mount them higher on their bases so they don't look so diminutive on the table next to the other figs.

(I know, I know. People aren't the same size…)

@ Russ Dunaway (any relation to Faye?),

While you are monitoring this thread, can I just draw your attention to another one – any news on more 2nd Edn?

We will get back to the 2nd edition somewhere in the not to distant future with artillery and cavalry. No relation to Faye.

I've OG and S&S mixed in my Napoleonics, along with
Calpe. Don't see a size issue, although that may just
be me.

@ Russ,

Thanks.

I have OG, OG 2nd, and S&S. Stylistically, the later two are very similar, as I believe they are by the same sculptor. The original OG are a little more varied in pose than the 2nd, but fit fine if you can live with one "active" unit on the table next to another that is minding their officers.
