This is a companion to the "Manufacturer you Miss the Mist" Poll Suggestion.

What line of a company that is still active would you like to see return?

I have a few of the Front Rank Jacobite range, but the first line. The current one is very nice, but rather "sturdy". grin
There was a previous Front Rank Jacobite line that was much slimmer. Yes, the axes were just waiting to fall off the figure. But they had more realistic proportions. Very nice.

Citadel had a "true 25mm" Dark Ages Line that I liked. I had half armies if Vikings, Byzantines, etc. Half armies because suddenly I couldn't get any more. The Byzantine range was so "true 25mm" that 4 SHC could actually fit on a WRG base! There were also Normans, Arabs and Romans.

All right, you nostalgic Old Farts, what do you miss?
Remember. We're talking about dropped lines by a company still in business.

Winston Smith01 Mar 2019 11:28 p.m. PST

Please do not show off your lack of reading comprehension by proposing a company that went out of business entirely. grin
That's what the other poll is for!

Tommy2001 Mar 2019 11:52 p.m. PST

The Perry Brothers metals for Games Workshop were so much better than anything GW puts out now. I wish the rights had reverted to them!

All the 1st edition Rogue Trader stuff.

The Citadel Fellowship of the Ring set. Plus their orcs/uruk hai.

My memory may be playing tricks on me, but I rather liked Warrior Miniatures first Napoleonics…it looks like they got rescuplted at some point…but it could just be me misremembering what my old figures looked like…

Revell 1/72 TYW and SYW

The Esci 1/72 Napoleonic French infantry (despite the many problems)

BillyNM02 Mar 2019 12:59 a.m. PST

Heroics & Ros 6mm Prussian Napoleonic musketeers – the first sculpts really captured shape of the Prussian shako bulked out by the waterproof cover; the current sculpts make it look far too small.
Plus Airfix 1/1200 warships, a delightful range that shamefully never covered everything they did in 1/600, especially HMS Belfast!
Also anyone who did a 20mm (1/76) metal Jagdpanther as I much prefer the heft of metal over the current trend towards resin or plastic.

Yes, Polly S paint, caught and killed by Testors.

irishserb02 Mar 2019 6:29 a.m. PST

Most are just figures within lines that have been replaced with newer models.

FASA's Starships for their Star Trek games.

GWs/Citadels first iteration of Imperial Guard and Orcs.

A fair number of GHQs micro-armor that has been replaced by the overly exaggerated style that they now produce. They had some models that needed replacing. They had others that were fine, and now look like caricatures of the real thing.

Some of the older QRF 15mm post war infantry, US and French come to mind.

The old Quality Castings WW2 infantry.

GW's Warmaster 10mm lines (specifically Brettonian).

GW's Battle of Five Armies 10mm line

Steve Jackson's Games original Ogre/GEV miniatures line. They've brought back half of this in plastic (HOORAY!), but one entire force structure (Combine, IIRC) has yet to be redone. Waiting for that Kickstarter…waiting…waiting,,,

Frontier Miniatures. Extensive lines for periods that weren't necessarily the favorites at the time. Beautiful FPW and APW ranges, as well as their Mexican American line.

Oh – and I'm referring to their 25mm figures.

Hmmm. Who made the old "Armies of the Hyborian Age" range? And is the firm still around?

Nick, I think you're talking about the Heritage "John Carter" range. Lots of good Heritage stuff, but it's the other poll.

Patience Parzival, patience. We keep buying SJGs Kickstarters, so they keep making them. Combine has not yet been promised, but they do keep mentioning the possibility. More Ogre marks should be the next up. The line is actively returning!

Minifigs, 2nd generation 15mm Napoleonics.

Games Workshop, 6mm plastic Epic.

Games Workshop, plastic Man O War.

Ral Partha (in cahoots with Manzakk Publishing), Phinieous Fingers.

Doyusha, 1/144 Dougram Combat Armor.

ROCO, 1/87 Minitanks

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP02 Mar 2019 10:52 a.m. PST

MiniMo, SJG is selling boards and pocket games in the last two kickstarters instead of vehicles. If they don't get around to Combine until I'm dead or senile, my patience will have been very poorly rewarded.

Oh. And is Thistle & Rose officially live or dead this week? They ought to be in one poll of the other.

Robert, Ogre Many Minis 1 shipped in October 2017, Many Minis 2 shipped in August of 2018. More will come this year.

Running manageable sized projects rather than promising the moon all in one Kickstarter keeps them in business. Managing all of their old product lines keeps them in business. That increases the odds of us seeing all of the glorious Ogre plastics eventually.

I'm still only about 2/3rds of the way through painting Many Minis 1 & 2! Half the forces are fully painted, 1/4 assembled, base coloured, and with magnets in all the infantry, and 1/4 assembled and infantry drilled out for magnets.

Polly S Paints. I suppose you can call it a discontinued line since Testors (sounds of horses whinnying in the background) is still around.

But then again, I'm referring to Polly S before Testors (horses whinnying) bought them and changed the formula.

MiniMo, my "many minis" box sits near my painting table unstarted. I'm just not up to more forces with no opposition army in sight. I've been down this road too many times.

The Paroom Station line… I need more of the Cephalopod Martians. Other good stuff in the line as well.

Hearty umpteenth for Polly S paints.

Airfix, Minicraft and Hasegawa 1/72 and 1/76 scale dioramas. Combined with easy-to-use rules such as Angriff or WWII Manual from Airfix Magazine #15 made for a quick and easy way for a pre-teen to get introduced to war gaming. Didn't hurt that Wargamers Digest was in its prime in the late 1970s either.

I sometimes think the hobby has missed the boat by not promoting easier points of entry (rules, figures) to encourage new historical gamers.

Old fart rant over, go on about your business.
