Our group did two battles. 1942 North Africa Brits vs. Italians & Germans. Used Bolt Action 2 rules. Axis won

Second game was Black Powder 2, ACW using Glory Hallelujah suppliment. Our first big foray into these rules. Yankees won, running off 2 of 3 Reb brigades. So what did you play?

Winston Smith27 Jan 2019 2:32 p.m. PST

Plattsburgh, War of 1812.
We used Empire V, "fast play". grin
This is a local variant, based on the COPYRIGHTED original rules, so, sorry. No copies.
It is NOT tedious. You just have to know what you're doing.

Two battles in 1866, Austrians v. Prussians using Field of Battle, 3rd edition, and playtesting/developing the Season of Battles campaign system. Great fun!

Check Your 6! Honduras vs. El Salvador 1969. Mustangs vs Corsairs. The FAS (2 C-47s and 4 Mustangs plus 2 Corsairs) had to bomb the Honduran air base. They faced 4 Corsairs of the Honduran Air Force. The Hondurans succeeded in downing both C-47s before they could reach their target and won the game.

After a number of WoG games, we went with a board game Friday night: Comquest of Nerath, which is essentially a D&D-themed variant of Axis & Allies (and, IMHO, a superior game). The alliance of elves and men defeated the vile hordes of the undead and goblins.

I'm building up to introducing the group to Warmaster.

KSmyth27 Jan 2019 3:52 p.m. PST

Nothing, but painted a bunch. Took a good look at Rebels and Patriots. Gaming with the guys on the 9th.

DBA… Republican Roman vs Late Macedonians. A replay of Pydna. Also Greeks vs Alex. Alex won a tight victory with the Phalanx finally breaking the Hoplites.

Spent Sunday afternoon running three hour-long games of Panzer Kids at the NOVAG/Potomac Wargamers game day at the Centreville, VA, library: British Shermans and Grants against German Pkz IIIs, IVs, and a Tiger in and around a burning Tunisian village, Dec. 1942. Had a few dads bring their kids to introduce them to the rules and the greater wargaming hobby.

Figures are primarily Old Glory and painted/based/labeled by myself. I am building (now 90% complete) the OOB for Palo Alto. We plan to play the game/battle at the Palo Alto battlefield visitors center this fall.

Cruise ship this past week. Just docked from eight day sailing to the Mexican Rivera ports. But next weekend shaping up for the Battle of Almonacid Aug 1809 using Polish, the German division, and French vs. the Spanish.

Later this evening…. hope to unpack and work on some VolksGrenadier platoons (20mm), based for FOW Ver3.0 future scenario "Festung Breslau", to be staged at the HMGS-PSW convention in March (Los Angeles-Van Nuys NG Armory)

Narratio27 Jan 2019 9:17 p.m. PST

On a construction site in Kazakhstan so my gaming is an hour or two of Civ 6 on the laptop every night for the 6 weeks that comprises my shift.

But, I'm home on Feb 1st for a three week period and then it's one or two games of C&C Napoleonics against my daughter, continuing a 15mm Imagination campaign against some bods in other cities in Thailand and two 1/300 WW2 east front battles against a friend who's coming over from Singapore for a week. So I'm pretty solid in February.

Just board games with the family.

One group I game with did a Naval Thunder WW2 British-Italian battle on Friday. The guy who GMed the game said the Italians did much better than historically. Me – all 3 of my Italian ships sunk.

Then on Saturday we did a Great Italian Wars battle with my 18mm Blue Moon collection using Pike and Shotte rules modified. Close battle and great fun.

wrgmr127 Jan 2019 11:59 p.m. PST

Gaming every Thursday with the group. One game of Shako 2, from Michael Hoppers scenario book Duel of Princes, north Sacile. The Austrians won handily as our cavalry did nothing! Also my dice rolling was shit! Second game, Armati 2 Athenians vs Spartans, the latter won this one.

No game again this weekend, that's two in a row. But I did get in a weeknight Flames of War game so I got my fix.

Wildman28 Jan 2019 9:05 a.m. PST

I work most weekends, so nothing then. Midweek, though, I had a final battle in a 1929 Berthier campaign, using a lightly- modified "Over the Top" for tactical rules. Franconians managed a decisive win-- ATRs and 77s KO'd a pair of FT- 17s and long range automatic weapons fire drove off a battery of 75s before they could deploy. Our tanks, as usual, were miles away from the battle.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned playing with the old lady, y'know chasing her a few laps around the dining room table? You guys got no sensa romance.

COL Scott ret29 Jan 2019 11:16 p.m. PST

No chasing necessary, mutually commencing with the same idea. No sense wasting the energy on running.
