Okay, in my never ending quest to have a variety of colorful different units on the table I ran across this unit. I like the light blue with red facings and saw that they were in germany in 1813. I couldn't find any info on how the unit preformed. Anyone happen to know, was it equal to regular line, more like militia or a very good unit like grenadiers perhaps. I assumed they are not of "Guard" quality as gamers think, that was just the name they were given, so……….anyone happen to know??? Thanks, Travis, happy gaming! |

They were at the battle of Wartenburg if I remember correctly. Being somewhat better trained then the typical 1813 young conscript I would assume since the unit was formed in 1811. Found this TMP article: TMP link |

G1, I believe it was initially a Police/garrison unit, therefore certainly had some training before being deployed to theatre in 1813. DB |

Also see TMP link concerning organisation and uniforms. TMP link about flag (or rather lack of a flag). |

Yep actually I found that site but thanks, were I got the idea, but from what I can tell, it was only the one battalion, not four? So to do a infantry brigade I would need to do green jackets, white paints with knee high boots? |

Yup – only 1 battalion. In August 1813 they were part of Fontanelli's 15th Division. They were part of the 3rd brigade was commanded by Moroni and had as companions 2nd, 3rd & 4th battalions of the 7th Italian Line Regiment. The 1st brigade was commanded by Martel and consisted of 3rd & 4th battalions of the 1st Italian Line Regiment and the 2nd, 3rd & 4th battalions of the 4th Italian Line Regiment. The 2nd brigade was under Saint-Andrea and consisted of the 2nd,3rd & 4th battalions of the 1st Italian Light Infantry Regiment and 3rd & 4th battalions of the 6th Italian Line Regiment. Also attached to the Division were1st Italian foot battery (6 x 6pdrs & 2 x 24pdr howitzers) and 13th Italian foot battery (6 x 6pdrs & 2 x 24pdr howitzers). |
