Hi

Can anyone tell me where I can get information on the troops that were defending Hugoumont at waterloo. Like an order of battle, if one exists.

Thanks.

Paul

That is trickier than you might think. Most just think of the chaps in the compound itself. But then you must consider those who resisted the initial advance through the wood, to the south. What about those who fought backwards and forwards over the orchard, outside the walled garden? Do you then exclude Bull's Howitzers, which did so much to keep advancing units away from Hgmt?

Are you then just wanting to know who goes into the walled off Chateau, stables, barns, farmer's house, gardener's house etc…….or the much much larger footprint that was Hgmt and such an obstacle?

I found this. You need to dig a bit, but I hope it helps.

This map gives the initial start positions and numbers of the various Allied units. The 2/3rd Grds in the Orchard were withdrawn to the ridge before the battle started. It doesn't say but there were 2 cos. (270) Nassauers in the Formal Garden.
