I'm looking to create a scenario focused on the fighting at and near Hougoumont during Waterloo. Can anyone point me to a resource that lists all the units that fought there as well as those nearby, such as the British forces on the ridge behind it? If it matters, I'll be doing this at probably a battalion scale. Also, I'll need 15mm Nassau and Hanover troops, I believe. Any recommendations for makers of those (or were they wearing British style uniforms)? |

Adkin's Waterloo book has a section on who & when for Hougoumont. Most of the defenders were in company or part batallion strength. From various places on-line the initial garrison: 1st company of the Hanoverian Field Jagers (sharpshooters) of one hundred men. One hundred rifle armed men from each of the Luneburg and Grubenhagen Hanoverian battalions. 1st Battalion of the 2nd Nassau Regiment commanded by Major Büsgen, totalling 800 men in six companies. The light companies from each of the four British Guards battalions – each about 90 to 100 strong. More Guard cos. were sent in later and a Brunswick Bn. showed up much later. |

Is it not funny how we all thought your question related to the chaps facing south? It took Le Breton to realise that the French might have participated also……… In that case we must add the Allied line artillery…. I think any such question must be looking at who was truly within the Hgmnt perimeter, whether the woodland to the south, the farm/chateauu building complex, the walled garden, or the orchard to the East. Most the Allied West wing played some part |

I have played this scenario out many times. Here is my rendition some years ago with the ruleset Lasalle link At the time I played it in 28 mm but now have a 18mm army. An OB is included. Here we have it being played with BP using the scenario from Albion Triumphant. link I now use General d'Armee for Napoleonics, I suspect this scenario will released in an upcoming Scenario book for GdA. I am quite looking forward to playing it with GdA as you can see the my Hougomont building are in 15 mm. I would go with AB that now has a complete line for Nassau-Butch Belgians. I think Blue Moon has some Hanoverians or you could proxy Brits. Not sure what I would proxy for the Kielmansegge Jagers. One of my favourite scenarios, have fun. John |
