They talked about it back in April of 2017. link link I wonder how much resolve there really is behind it now: link link And why do they really think ‘Moon Village' is a better name than Moon/Lunar Station … who knows! Still, that would be a fun terrain project for 15mm or smaller! QUESTION Who would you have attacking the "Moon Village"? Russia? US? Japan? Dan

"Moon Village" sounds more permanent… |
Cacique Caribe | 30 Apr 2018 1:58 a.m. PST |
They've been looking for some way to make this a reality for quite some time: link It sounds like Xi really RALLY wants that feather in his cap. Dan PS. I know it's not Koreans, or a cult, but now I know what to call them … Moonies! |

That's all classified … again … |
Tgerritsen | 30 Apr 2018 8:21 a.m. PST |
The clear enemies of the Moon Village should be clear- moon men. Or mooninites. |
TheBeast | 30 Apr 2018 9:20 a.m. PST |
Lead by Gidney & Cloyd! Thwarted by a sterling pair from Frostbite Falls, of course. If Dan had included VSF, it would be Selenites, by the by. Doug |
Cacique Caribe | 30 Apr 2018 10:49 a.m. PST |
"Mooninites" Priceless!!! Dan PS. Perhaps Moonies vs Loonies? |
Lion in the Stars | 30 Apr 2018 2:27 p.m. PST |
Let's see here… Assuming that they throw enough money at it to make it happen the way the US did with Apollo, it'll take about a decade from "We're really going to do this" to "First landing!!eleventyone!" From there it will probably take another decade to get the village built to more than a dozen people. So, 2040, give or take. Maybe 2050 since you need an even bigger lifter than the Saturn 5. |
Covert Walrus | 30 Apr 2018 3:00 p.m. PST |
Concur with Lion In The Stars. Mind you, since the Chinese have a lot of data from other peoepl to work with ( In all possible means of acquisition , they might be able to shortcut the construction and use of a heavy-lift booster by about ten years, working on the data from Energia, Ariane 4 and Saturn V projects; It certainly worked for their Shenzou capsules. Maybe 2035-2040 as a start date? |

The US still has to pay Russia 1 Million per/Astronaut just to get to the ISS ! |
miniMo | 01 May 2018 7:47 a.m. PST |
That would be Lunies, not Loonies. |

I'm assuming that the Europeans will insist on NASA/ESA man-rated reliability, which is going to simply take time to test about a hundred units to destruction. It'd be ironic if the Japanese got their orbital elevator built before the SinoEuropean rockets got proof-tested. It's a very short trip from the top of the Beanstalk to the Moon, virtually free in terms of delta-vee. It does take twenty days or so to climb up to the top of the Beanstalk (it's a long, long way, even at 300kph) |
Cacique Caribe | 02 May 2018 11:33 a.m. PST |
@MiniMo, I was spelling it "phonetically", to match it ro Moonies. :) @Lion, my money has been on Japan for a while now, to finally step up and take the lead. We can't even send astronauts any longer ourselves. Our guys are just cargo right now. Passengers on someone else's Cold War Era ride. Only an idiot* would discontinue the shuttle program without making sure there was a suitable replacement and a proper seamless transition. Dan * Or something much, much worse … buying time for someone else to catch up and build a People's Village. :) |

Well I had seen/read that the Japanese are probably the most advanced in many ways when it comes to robotics … |
Borathan | 02 May 2018 4:13 p.m. PST |
Could be interesting to do something based on the Stark's War books… |

Not to be confuse with the Nazi Lünies. ~ , ~ |
Russ Lockwood | 06 May 2018 10:19 a.m. PST |
You mean the aliens will allow them up there? The NASA Secrets TV show didn't say that… :) |

Shhh Russ ! That's not for the general public to know ! |

If the South China Sea situation is a sign of things to come, then I guess it's Communist China who will be doing this in space from now on?
TMP link Dan PS. Though I don't hear that many these days with the balls to call Communist China "colonial" or "imperialist". :) |

Yay! According to Hawking, our descendants will be running casinos for gambling-addicted aliens. |
Legion 4 | 11 Jun 2018 7:21 a.m. PST |
Well that would be an interesting turn of events … Might cut into the Amerinds "piece of the action" though ? We get the ETs smoking, drink booze, doing drugs and eating fast food … We could be rid of them in a few decades or so. Or would that be considered genocide ?
Ah … no matter … "Aliens Go Home" !

Legion 4: "We get the ETs smoking, drink booze, doing drugs and eating fast food … We could be rid of them in a few decades or so. Or would that be considered genocide ?" LOL. There will always be those who will claim everything is genocide … if we are the ones doing it, that is. But yet somehow perfectly justifiable when someone tries to do it to us. Makes one wonder whose side they are working for. Perhaps they are aliens themselves? Or collaborators? :) Dan TMP link |
Legion 4 | 11 Jun 2018 3:21 p.m. PST |
There will always be those who will claim everything is genocide Looks like humanity is doing it to itself … |

One thing that could make for a great lunar based game would be something like the scenario from the Stark's War/Command/Crusade novels…with war becoming something more of a cable channel thing that people tune in to watch followed by the soldiers revolting and taking over lunar facilities to build a new government |
